James Harden has clarified that he wants to leave the Philadelphia 76ers before next season. Despite the team planning to retain the former MVP and run it back, Harden has made it clear that his time as a Sixer has run its course.

Right after the 2022-23 season ended, reports started surfacing that James Harden had put in a trade request. Although the team is optimistic that Harden would stay put in Philly, the 33-year-old has hinted at the Los Angeles Clippers as his preferred trade destination.

If a trade does materialize from this drama, Harden will be soon suiting up for his fifth team. The ordeal will also mark his third trade request, which is rare even for a superstar like him. Harden’s practice of changing teams prompted NBA Hall-Of-Famer, Tracy McGrady to question the guard’s decision.

“That makes zero sense to me.” McGrady said, “I look at all the teammates he’s played with. James has probably played with more Hall of Famers than anybody in the NBA, and he doesn’t have a ring to show for it. I don’t know what he’s looking for.”

In an exclusive interview with GQ Sports, the 44-year-old NBA legend didn’t hold back when discussing the ongoing Harden situation. McGrady expressed his views on the matter, suggesting that there might be some underlying internal problems at play. He directly addressed Harden, saying, “You have a shot to at least play for a championship. It’s got to be something deeper than what you know. Get over it, man.”

Amidst swirling trade rumors, “The Beard” has been leaving cryptic messages on his Instagram and Twitter profiles, hinting at his desire to part ways with the current organization. Adding fuel to the speculation, his absence at Joel Embiid’s wedding has only intensified the buzz surrounding his future in Philadelphia.

With trade rumors brewing around, there is a very realistic possibility that former teammates James Harden and Russell Westbrook may reunite in Los Angeles. The most recent reports have indicated that Harden has picked the Clippers to be his preferred destination.

James Harden’s decision to seek a reunion with Westbrook can be rooted in his deep relationship with the point guard, who had previously played with him on the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets. The two had a successful partnership in 2020 with the Rockets, but their off-season was cut short due to the pandemic. However, the Clippers have declined every offer from the Sixers as the team is reluctant to add Terrance Mann into a trade package for Harden.

Acquiring Harden can boost the Clippers tremendously as a lineup of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Westbrook, and Harden will pose serious threats to the Western Conference. The team still hasn’t signed a point guard, and Harden could very fill that spot in the coming days.
