“He should’ve been suspended for half a season” NBA Twitter calls out ‘soft’ officiating after Jayson Tatum was handed worst tech vs OKC

“He should’ve been suspended for half a season” NBA Twitter calls out ‘soft’ officiating after Jayson Tatum was handed worst tech vs OKC

Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum‘s technical foul call on Monday night was a prime example of how complicated the officiating is in the NBA. The three-time NBA All-Star was given a technical foul during the Boston Celtics vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game for clapping, and the fans along with other players around the league just couldn’t actually believe it.

Whether Jayson Tatum belonged among the top 10 NBA players was hotly debated for a while. Thoughts of the former Duke fan favorite began to transform when he guided the Celtics to the NBA Finals in 2022 and solidified his image as a star player.

On Monday night’s game between the Celtics and OKC Thunder, Tatum and Boston managed to fend off a tenacious Thunder side to achieve a victory in the closing minutes. But in the second quarter, a call by the officials that still doesn’t make sense against Tatum shocked everyone.

A minute into the second quarter, Jayson Tatum pushed Aleksej Pokusevski into Derrick White in an effort to grab the ball and stop the play, which was an ordinary basketball move without a trace of hostility. Tatum only claps his hands in mild irritation after the foul is called. The OKC Thunder were awarded a free throw on the other end after the referee decided that this was enough to charge him with a technical foul, even though it was not absolutely justified.

Jayson Tatum and the Celtics edge past Oklahoma City Thunder in a close game

The Boston Celtics defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 126-122 on Monday night to earn their seventh consecutive victory behind Jayson Tatum‘s 27 points and 10 rebounds. Boston fell behind Oklahoma City by as many as 15 points in the third quarter, but it outscored them 37 to 26 in the fourth. Marcus Smart backed Tatum with eight assists, five rebounds, and 20 of his 22 points in the second half. The Celtics fought behind 26 points from Jaylen Brown, 12 points and 11 rebounds from Al Horford, and 10 points from substitute Payton Pritchard.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 37 points to lead the Thunder whereas Aleksej Pokusevski finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Lu Dort scored 21. Jalen Williams had 14 and Josh Giddey contributed 16 points to the final tally.

Oklahoma City, who struggled to hold on after a strong first half, had double-digit scoring from all five of their starters. The Thunder outrebounded Boston 51-46, committed just six turnovers in the first half, and lost, dropping to 2-5 on the road. Unfortunately, they committed seven in each of the following two quarters.

Fans react to Jayson Tatum’s hilarious technical foul

Fans frequently view referees and officials unfavorably when they make unnecessary errors or make poor decisions. Kevin Durant, Ja Morant, and others were intrigued by the technical foul on Tatum and commented that it was the worst one they had seen in a long time.

Tatum did nothing today that seemed deserving of a technical foul, and neither he nor anybody else could believe it. The Boston Celtics are being led by Jayson Tatum, who is as strong as ever.

He is one of the league’s top players at the moment, averaging 32.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game as the Celtics climbed to 11-3 with their victory over the Thunder. Right now, this squad appears to be a strong contender for the championship, and coach Joe Mazzulla is doing an outstanding job of continuing the success into the following season.
