Twitter continues to FIGHT for justice as Kyrie Irving continues to serve time in suspension
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving, the star player for the Brooklyn Nets is still in the national spotlight after receiving backlash for posting a link to an anti-Semitic film. When it comes to Kyrie, there are no assurances or promises because the superstar guard will be apart from his teammates for a while due to his prolonged suspension.
On social media last week, Kyrie Irving gave his backing to a documentary with offensive anti-Semitic elements. Since then, Irving has held back from offering an apology or expressing sorrow for the film’s message only doing so after it was already too late. He is currently on team suspension and must comply with a few rules in order to resume playing. It’s still unknown when Irving will be able to return from the suspension as the team stated that he won’t be playing against the Lakers on Sunday.
Hours after the Nets imposed a five-game suspension for his later justification of his action, the NBA player apologized on his Instagram account and wrote: “To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize…” Nets owner Joe Tsai met with Irving this week and later tweeted that: “The Nets and Kyrie, together with the NBA and NBPA, are working constructively toward a process of forgiveness, healing and education.” Even after all these, the fans are enraged by the reports stating that Irving won’t be on the court soon.
All about Kyrie Irving and his antisemitic post
The NBA criticized Kyrie Irving last week for posting a link to the 2018 documentary “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” which is based on Ronald Dalton’s book with the same title and has been criticized by civil rights activists for being antisemitic. Numerous individuals have claimed that the book and movie contain an antisemitic essence and that the movie itself was unpleasant. The NBA and Irving’s sponsor Nike, who parted ways with the guard recently, issued statements denouncing antisemitism and hate speech in addition to the press release that came after.
Nick Friedell had questioned Irving about the notion of promoting the film and Kyrie Irving verbally confronted ESPN’s reporter. In an effort to eliminate discriminatory practices in society, Irving and the Nets promised to donate $500,000 each to organizations and causes but were later rejected by the ADL. Last week, in response to the uproar the team and the Anti-Defamation League also released a joint statement. The lack of an apology from Irving concerned Nets owner Joe Tsai as well as NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
Fans still concerned about Kyrie Irving’s return after suspension
The Nets gave the 30-year-old six “remedial measures” to accomplish before he could return to the team. This list was created with the understanding that he wouldn’t likely complete all six and risk the possibility of being officially terminated. It’s tough to predict what could be able to preserve Kyrie’s career at this point and his future with the Nets franchise and the league is questionable.
Various people on social media are still showing love and support for the suspended star:
Not everyone thinks Irving’s future in the league would be as favorable. Only time will tell how and where his career will conclude. This past Tuesday, Kyrie and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver met and it appears like a positive solution to the issues was reached. No franchise is likely to take on Kyrie Irving’s load despite teams’ desire to have him on their roster.
