“That’s first-degree murder” – NBA Twitter reacts to Lauri Markkanen’s THUNDEROUS poster dunk on Nikola Vucevic’s head
Lauri Markkanen
The Utah Jazz came to Chicago after a much-needed win against the Houston Rockets which saw their star player Lauri Markkanen drop a career-best 49 points. It was expected that the Markkanen-led Jazz will beat the Bulls too however things didn’t go as planned. The Jazz were defeated by the Bulls 126-118. The Bulls are at 19-21 after three straight victories. With its sixth defeat in seven games, Utah’s record fell to 20-22. Lauri Markkanen, a former Bulls player, led the Jazz with 28 points, and Ochai Agbaji added 19.
While the victory may be bitter, the game saw Markkanen posterize the opponents with a brilliant dunk. During the final minutes of the 3rd quarter, Markkanen’s teammate Talen Horton-Tucker gave the forward a powerful pass. He then proceeded to rush toward the basket and dropped a powerful dunk over Chicago’s Nikola Vucevic. Utah now led 78-73 thanks to the dunk. But unfortunately, soon the Bulls took over and won it all.
The Jazz held a scoreboard advantage of 89-84 at the completion of the third quarter. Markkanen led the squad with 28 points over his 36 minutes on the court on 12-20 shooting, including 2-7 from three. He added two rebounds, three assists, and one steal as well.
Markkanen has been scoring 24.5 points per game on 53.0 percent shooting this season, including 42.2 percent from beyond the arc. During his first 38 games with the Jazz, he also averaged 8.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.6 blocks, and 0.6 steals. Against the Bulls he got a new career-high of dunks (8). And, the internet went berserk watching him dunk all-over Nikola Vucevic. You can find some of the many reactions posted here below:
Lauri Markkanen led Jazz fall short against Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz 126-118 on Saturday night thanks to 36 points from Zach LaVine, 35 from DeMar DeRozan, and three straight 3-pointers he made during a crucial fourth-quarter stretch.
LaVine made the three consecutive 3s to increase the Bulls’ advantage to eight points after making 11 3s and scoring 41 points in the Bulls’ victory in Philadelphia on Friday night. DeRozan surpassed Pau Gasol and Bob Pettit to take over position 40 on the NBA’s list of all-time scorers.
With 7:32 remaining and the Bulls behind 99-92, they launched on an 11-2 run that was sparked by two 3-pointers from Patrick Williams and a layup by 6-foot guard Coby White over the 7-foot Markkanen. Utah gained ground during a 40-point third quarter in which Markkanen dunked over Vucevic, but most of that momentum was halted by the Bulls’ comeback.
