On Wednesday night in Dallas, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Utah Jazz 147-97. Luka Doncic started hot and never looked back en route to becoming the first player in NBA history to score the first-ever 25+ point first-half triple-double. Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, and Kelly Olynyk were all absent from the Utah Jazz’s Wednesday night game against the Dallas Mavericks, making it already challenging for head coach Will Hardy and his team to win.
The Jazz’s 14th defeat of the season came from the 50-point rout. The Utah team are 12th in the Western Conference with a 7-14 record during the regular season.
Their defense seemed to vanish immediately after tip-off, and they had no response for Doncic and the remainder of the Mavericks’ offensive line. The Jazz head coach is aware of this. Will Hardy‘s response to his worst loss as a head coach in the professional ranks was an all-time low.
In the post game presser, Hardy said:
That was a horrendous performance from start to finish. That was a masterpiece of dogs**t. I really don't know how to describe that game.
Hardy went on to compliment the Dallas Mavericks and give them credit for their excellent shooting, which was particularly evident in the early going and kind of continued throughout. They made 22 threes, shooting 45% from three, which was difficult to overcome.
Even though the Dallas Mavericks easily prevailed, there was drama throughout the game. There was some back-and-forth between Kris Dunn, Collin Sexton, and Luka Doncic in the second half.

In the NBA, winning is tough, but losing by fifty points could be even harder because it takes a lot of disasters and cataclysms to defeat a team by that much in just forty-eight minutes. Doncic finished the game with 40 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists after recording a triple-double in the first half. Will knew this was insulation from the Mavericks, but he took the jab and appreciated them.
Hardy kept his assessment brutal while giving credit to Dallas for their masterful performance. Hardy said,
Haven't been disappointed in our team very often this year, but I think tonight, from the beginning of the game… It's hard to place what the reason is, but it seemed like the Mavericks were moving at a different pace than we were from start to finish.
If nothing else, the Jazz’s lengthy history includes a matchup like this one. The Mavs defeated that Jazz team, which finished with 48 wins and advanced by 50 points in November 2018 (118-68), so their loss on Wednesday does not indicate a miserable future for them.
