Klay Thompson played a crucial role in the Golden State Warriors dynasty, contributing significantly to their four championship victories in 9 years. The Warriors drafted Klay, and he excelled as an elite two-way guard until sustaining an injury during the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. The ACL tear was followed by another injury in which he ruptured his Achilles, sidelining him for 941 days. He made his comeback in January 2022, aiding the Warriors in capturing another championship.

Throughout his rehabilitation, the Warriors provided support to Klay. They had signed him to a five-year, $190 million extension in 2019 after his injury, and he continued to receive payment during his recovery. As he enters the final year of his extension this upcoming season, Klay is set to earn over $40 million and is also due for a new extension.

“Those are guys we definitely want to get locked up,” Dunleavy said on the latest “Dubs Talk,” which debuted Tuesday. “They’ve been a big part of what we’ve done here. They can still contribute, especially Klay on the court. And Steve is one of the best, if not the best, coach in the league.” Dunleavy said.

During a recent appearance on “Podcast P with Paul George,” Klay shared his views on whether he believes the Warriors can secure another championship. He emphasized the challenges of winning consecutive championships, especially when the team faces a less-than-optimal start to the season and deals with injuries, as seen when Stephen Curry suffered multiple setbacks that impacted the Warriors’ performance last season.

Furthermore, Klay added that the team is motivated and actively arranging mini-camps before the season to practice. He firmly believes that they possess the potential to secure another championship. The disappointing taste left by the previous season’s outcome has only intensified his determination to either win a championship or, at the very least, give their best effort to do so.

“I know Andrew [Wiggins], Steph, Dray ,CP [Chris Paul], and the rest of the guys are hungry, we’re trying to set up some mini-camps before the season but we’re all on the same page. Like look, we got another ring in us and we expect to do it if we stay the course…. So last year left a bad taste in my mouth but that’s not the worst thing, now I’m hungrier than ever and I want to get back to that mountain top. 4 is cool, but why not get as many as you can get or at least attempt” Klay said.

Following his recovery from injuries, Klay Thompson has been striving to recapture his pre-injury form. His goal is to make a significant contribution at the highest level possible, aiming for another championship victory. Klay, who is also in line for a contract extension, holds a strong desire to commit to a long-term deal with the Warriors. This choice would allow him to conclude his career with the team that initially drafted him.
