Watch: Grizzlies star Ja Morant unapologetically FaceTimed the same fan he was talking to before his ejection

Ja Morant

Ja Morant became the victim of one of the season’s most surprising ejections on Saturday. The Memphis Grizzlies star’s ejection came against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Morant was ejected for talking to a fan during the game. Not only Ja, his teammates, and the commentators but even the fan were stunned by the ejection.

With 43.2 seconds remaining on the clock in the second quarter, Thunder star Eugene Omoruyi was on the charity line ready to shoot the first of his two free throws. Ja, who was standing around the referee, was seen involved in a conversation with a fan on the courtside. Right then, Ray Acosta, the NBA official, hit him with his second technical and Ja was tossed out.

The ejection of conversing with a fan took everyone by surprise. However, it was later clarified by the crew chief and John Goble, the NBA official that Ja wasn’t ejected for talking to the fan but for questioning the integrity of the official during the game. The crew chief for the content gave clarity that Morant was ejected for his comments that “questioned the integrity of the officials.” Ja did made a comment about the missed calls from the ref. That comment is probably the reason behind his ejection.

When John Goble was asked if Morant was ejected for any comments he made to the crowd, he said, “no.” Goble made it clear that the second technical to the Memphis star was slapped because of his unprofessional comments. “Morant was assessed his second technical foul for making a comment questioning the integrity of the officials,” said Goble.

Not only Ja was upset after the ejection but Lisa, the superfan who he was talking to was shattered, perhaps she felt guilty for his ejection. Ja made sure she didn’t feel guilty and made a heart gesture towards her before leaving the court.

However, there is a reason, Ja Morant is NBA’s sweetheart, and he went out of his way to make sure she wasn’t feeling guilty. Once Ja reached the locker room, he FaceTimed his dad Tee Morant, who was also sitting courtside. Tee Morant brought the phone over to Lisa, so Ja could talk to her. Lisa told Ja she felt really awful after his ejection. Ja, being a gem was not upset at all, and said “it’s all good.”

Later on, Ja said that he was hit with the second technical just for talking to the fan. This was not the first time Morant was hit with a technical for allegedly questioning the integrity of an official. Earlier in the season, during the Grizzlies-Celtics game, he was hit with a technical for asking the referee if he bet on “FanDuel.”
