The Golden State Warriors secured a 116-101 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday night, with Klay Thompson delivering a standout performance. The game marked Thompson’s third career outing with 12 or more three-pointers, tying with NBA career three-point leader Stephen Curry who has achieved the feat twice. Despite the win, the Warriors were missing three starters, including Curry and Andrew Wiggins.

After a 2 ½-year absence due to knee and Achilles surgeries, Thompson received medical clearance to play on back-to-back nights only last week, ahead of the All-Star break. Since his return, he has played impressively, reaching his season-high with 42 points against the Rockets. Thompson also shot 12 for 19 and scored all his made shots from long-range.

In addition to Thompson’s outstanding performance, Donte DiVincenzo added 15 points, while Jordan Poole scored 15 and made a 38-footer to beat the halftime buzzer, giving Golden State a comfortable lead of 66-49. Kevon Looney also performed well, grabbing 13 rebounds, making it his fifth consecutive game with at least that many.

Thompson was modest in his comments about his performance, stating, “I don’t like to talk about vintage me or am I my old self? I just think I’m being myself and I was capable of these things in the past and as long as my wrists still work, my feet work, I’ll forever be able to shoot the rock.”

Head coach Steve Kerr expressed his delight with Thompson’s performance, saying, “He was brilliant tonight and it’s just so great to see him now at the point where he can do this. I’m really happy for Klay, he’s put in the work. I really loved the fact he got seven rebounds.”

While the Golden State Warriors celebrated a victory, the Houston Rockets continue to struggle. The Rockets lost their eighth consecutive game and they’re fifth in a row on the road. The team, currently holding the NBA’s worst record at 13-46, faced another defeat despite KJ Martin’s strong performance, with 22 points and eight rebounds. TyTy Washington Jr. also contributed 15 points, while Jae’Sean Tate scored 14 points.

The Rockets’ coach, Stephen Silas, was disappointed with his team’s performance, stating, “We just didn’t have enough. We didn’t make shots. Our defense wasn’t good enough. We just have to get better.”

Despite their struggles, the Rockets have seen some positive performances from Martin and Washington Jr., who have emerged as promising players. However, the team still has much work to do to improve its form and get out of its current slump.
