WATCH: Shai Gilgeous Alexander slices Nuggets defender’s ankles with lethal crossover, commands him to mop the floor

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander snatching Davon Reed's ankles

Shai Gilgeous Alexander has become perhaps the biggest surprise this season. Shai was without any ounce of doubt the best player on the Oklahoma City Thunder team in the previous two years at least. However, he has emerged not only as the best player on the team but also as one of the best players in the league. So far into the season, Shai Alexander has been averaging 31.1 points per game. He is only behind Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry in points per game.

The Denver Nuggets beat Shai Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday in an overtime thriller. Despite losing the match which was very crucial for the Thunder, Shai gave a highlight that left the fans and the viewers’ jaws dropped. With 1.05 left in the 3rd quarter of the game, Shai dropped Davon Reed with one of the most vicious ankle breakers one could witness.

What was more embarrassing for Reed who was on the ground; Shai scored with a beautiful mid-range jumper. Falling from a crossover is perhaps the biggest nightmare for a defender; apart from getting posterized on the rim. Alexander’s move set the Thunder fans’ mood for another 18 minutes of the thriller in the Paycom Center.

Not only did Shai drop him on the floor after getting him with the ankle breaker, but he also signaled him to mop the top of the slippery. The Canadian-born star has not only been excellent in scoring the basket, but he has also exponentially increased his other aspects of the game. Shai has been averaging 1.8 steals, 6.3 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game for the Thunder. Several teams have already tried pursuing Shai but having developed into a franchise player, it is difficult to lure Alexandra out of OKC.

Shai Gilgeous Alexander and the OKC fall to 12th place in Western Conference

Shai Gilgeous Alexander has been on a tear this season with the Oklahoma City Thunder but can hardly change the course of the Thunder’s sinking ship. After losing to the Denver Nuggets 131-126 in the OT, the Thunder has fallen to 12th position in the Western Conference. Despite 6 players scoring in double digits the Thunder failed to register their win over the Nuggets. Shai scored 31 points for the Thunder, while Nikola Jokic scored 39 points for the Nuggets.

Despite having a historic season so far, Alexander is unable to lead the OKC beyond what is already expected. Shai and the Thunder were expected to take a leap this season with Chet Holmgren, who could have elevated their scoring and defense exponentially. Chet had injured himself this offseason while at a pro-am game in Seattle. Holmgren was hurt on a play while he was trying to defend LeBron James.
