While all-star matchups are not a big deal in the NBA, there is one that hasn’t happened since the Christmas of 2018 – LeBron James vs Kevin Durant. After a five-year hiatus, the marquee matchup is back, Shams Charania reported. He said, “Kevin Durant versus LeBron James for the first time since 2018, that will be October 26th when Phoenix plays the Lakers. This will be the Lakers’ home opener. And finally, we get to see KD vs LeBron.”
If the rumors are true, the duo will lock horns against each other at the Lakers’ arena on 26th October 2023. The last time they played together was the Golden State Warriors v/s LA Lakers game in the 2018 season, where the Lakers thrashed the Warriors 127-101.
After that season, Durant left the Warriors and joined the Brooklyn Nets. However, he was out for the whole season due to an Achilles tear. He left the Nets soon and bashed people who called him out for leaving Kyrie Irving. Ever since that season, their teams have faced off, but at least one of the two was injured during their matchups. While Durant never got the opportunity to play against James in the Nets jersey, he might have a chance to do so with the Phoenix Suns this year.
What happened in the last LeBron James vs Kevin Durant matchup?
An explosive clash unfolded at Oracle Arena as the Los Angeles Lakers surged to a commanding 127-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors. Despite LeBron James exiting the game early in the third quarter, the Lakers showed why they are the boss. Kyle Kuzma stood at the forefront of their scoring efforts, amassing 19 points with a 6-of-14 shooting record. Ivica Zubac shone brightly with 18 points and 11 rebounds, contributing significantly to the team’s triumph.
While the Warriors battled to keep pace, Andre Iguodala showcased his prowess as a bench player, delivering 23 points on 12 shots. Kevin Durant’s contribution added to the mix, with 21 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. The dynamic duo of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green couldn’t quite find their rhythm, with Curry securing just 15 points on 17 shots and Green teaming up with Klay Thompson for a combined total of nine points on 4-of-14 shooting.
Throughout the enthralling matchup, fans were treated to updates, highlights, and insightful analysis, capturing every moment of this exhilarating Christmas Day clash. As the duo is in the same conference for only the second time in their career, October 26th will surely be an exhilarating matchup, and fans will surely come in hoards to watch the matchup.
