“In the black community like we’ve been told that’s how the process works” Jay Williams sounds off at Nets comparing Kyrie Irving’s suspension to African-American injustice

Jay Williams and Kyrie Irving

Former NBA player Jay Williams spoke on the recent suspension of Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving. Kyrie has been given a list of tasks to do if he wants to return to the league, and Jay has compared this list to ‘black’ community slavery. However, Jay feels that many people think that how much ever Kyrie apologizes won’t be enough.

Jay Williams was talking in a video he tweeted on his social media handle, where he quoted, “I want you guys to empathize with it and hear me on it so when I hear what Kyrie Irving has to go through in order to be reinstated, I’m appalled I’m appalled and let me give you examples of how I feel like we don’t have the same energy and hold other people who have dealt with racial tropes, accountable.

He also continued, “So when Sarah Silverman does blackface or when Don Imus says nappy-headed hoes or when Howard Stern calls somebody the n-word in the skit or when Brett Favre takes money from the state of Mississippi, we don’t ask them to get sensitivity training, we don’t ask them to donate five hundred thousand dollars, we don’t ask them to meet with the black National caucus.”

Jay added, “They apologize and then you know what the rest of the world moves on. But what I feel like is happening here and that’s how in the black community like we’ve been told that’s how the process works right think about that… We don’t like it. We would love to hold them accountable but society and having a lot of black people in positions of power, we don’t have the Govern ability to do that. But what we feel like happens with Kyrie is, even after an apology it’s not enough. We feel like there needs to be more. And lot of people I’ve spoken to are the last couple of days talk about this thing older mentors of mine talk about Buck Breaking.”

Kyrie Irving meets NBA commissioner Adam Silver

Kyrie Irving and Adam Silver

The Nets’ suspended star Kyrie recently met NBA commissioner Adam Silver as he eyes a return from his suspension face. In this meeting, the two discussed Kyrie’s ‘controversial’ tweet as well as his future with the Nets after suspension which featured a link to a movie with antisemitic content. However, Kyrie has now deleted his post from social media. The Nets suspended Kyrie for five games and he issued an apology only after that.

If the All-star player has to come back and play in the league, he must complete a list of six items proposed by the Nets. That includes issuing a verbal apology to the media for sharing the film and having a solid understanding of why the film was harmful. He will also be required to follow and complete sensitivity training under the team’s direction and meet with Jewish leaders in the Brooklyn community.

Kyrie will need to donate $500,000 to anti-hate causes and meet with the Anti-Defamation League. If Irving fulfills his requirements for the Nets’ approval. He will also have to meet the Brooklyn owner Joe Tsai and state why his latest behavior will not happen again this season.
