“You don’t have to be the star, just get that ring” – Chris Broussard gives advice to Russell Westbrook for his time at the Los Angeles Clippers
Chris Broussard tells Westbrook he should just care about wins and not care about his starts in pursuit of a championship with the Los Angeles Clippers
Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook has had a rough tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers so far and Chris Broussard has some advice for him. “I got three words for Russell Westbrook. Just. Win. Baby,” said Chris Broussard on First Things First. Chris believes that Westbrook should follow the steps of players before him like Gary Payton and live with a reduced role as his team wins.
“It’s not about stats; it’s not about triple-doubles. It’s not even about starting games,” said Broussard. Russell Westbrook still needs to fill up the stat sheet as he did in his prime, and the Clippers have still been winning games. Broussard feels Westbrook should not worry about fewer minutes or closing games, as when he is on the bench during the closing time, the Clippers have found success.
“When he was in the finishing lineup for the first six games, they went 1-5. He hasn’t finished the last three games, including the one against Golden State, and they went 3-0,” said Chris Broussard. The Los Angeles Clippers have won the last four games in a row without Russ consistently closing, and Broussard feels Westbrook should accept this and take wins at this stage.

The Los Angeles Clippers might be the best chance for Russell Westbrook to win a ring
The Clippers are the 5th seed in the West right now and look like genuine contenders in the West this season. Russell Westbrook made the NBA finals only once in his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2012. Westbrook has since turned into a league MVP, becoming the all-time leader in triple-doubles, and has made the conference finals twice since then.
Westbrook is currently 34 and has only a few years left at his peak. Russ is a starter in Los Angeles but plays fewer minutes than other players and rarely closes games. The Clippers have the firepower in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and have made the conference finals as recently as 2021.
The Clippers will play the Phoenix Suns as it stands in the first round of the playoffs. The Phoenix Suns did beat the Los Angeles Clippers the last time they met each other in the playoffs and are favorited with Kevin Durant on their side. However, the last time Kawhi Leonard faced Kevin Durant in the playoffs, Kawhi got the win and won a championship. Westbrook will hope he can end his career with a ring, and the Clippers might be his best chance.
