The recurring pattern continues as the Los Angeles Lakers faced another upset against a team that is supposed to be weaker. The Minnesota Timberwolves have been significantly much better since their last couple of seasons. Karl Anthony-Towns has been having an exceptional year with the team averaging 24.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. As the T-Wolves rank much higher than the “stacked” Lakers, some would say it is only right for them to talk smack.

During the Lakers vs Timberwolves matchup, the Wolves were not soft towards their obviously losing opponents but instead fired shots that may have gotten a little personal. Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook did not take the comments lightly even though trash talking is a very common occurrence on the basketball floor. He in return gave his opinion digging at the Timberwolves franchise as a whole.

Westbrook who has been heavily criticized for his works with the Lakers responded to the disrespect from his opponents saying, “I honestly don’t pay no mind to it, Maybe other guys. They weren’t talking to me. They were talking to individual guys, but the trash talking doesn’t bother me none. Nobody over there has done anything in this league.”

Looking at what Brodie has said, it does not seem like he did not listen to the T-Wolves trash talk the Lakers.

In response to Russ’s comments, Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley said, “That’s his perspective. I mean, Russ is a great player, a phenomenal player in this league. Our individual battles, all the from OKC, he’s one of those players where… if I’m in L.A., I make sure I don’t go out because I got Russ the next day. So I go to bed early, you know, waiting for that matchup. From that standpoint, it’s his opinion, of course.”

The Minnesota Timberwolves managed to outscore the LA Lakers in the first two and last quarters. The game concluded at 124-104 as the Wolves hosted the Lakers. The purple and gold players had a very poor night from the three-point range shooting 22.2% from beyond the arc. LeBron James had an off night finishing with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. No Lakers player scored over 20 points. Westbrook only had 15 points in 36 minutes of playing time.

Karl Anthony-Towns led the Wolves with 30 points and 8 rebounds on 8-15 shooting. Anthony Edwards had another great night offensively finishing with 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Wolves were much more consistent in their shooting during the game which gave them the upper hand.

They are 12 games ahead of the Lakers at the moment and have higher chances of making it to the playoffs over LA. As Beverley would point out in a tweet, Russ’s comments on individual contributions stay irrelevant in a game meant to be played as a team.
