Jalen Rose on Kobe Bryant’s conversation with Dwight Howard
The Los Angeles Lakers had 2 successive semi-finals knockouts in the 2011, and 2012 seasons, and decided that they needed fresh legs and identified that man as the 5X All NBA first team and 3X DPOY in the off-season trade. But even with the addition of Dwight Howard nothing came out of the trade.
Recently Jalen Rose was a guest at the Matt Barnes’ and Stephen Jacksons’ podcast, ‘ All the Smoke Podcast’. They were many topics that were being discussed and one of them was revolving around Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard when the big man joined the Los Angeles Lakers in the Off-season. Jalen Rose spoke about how sad Kobe was after he had a telephonic conversation with the 3X DPOY.

Jalen Rose told on the podcast, “I was speaking at his camp the day he heard Dwight Howard was gonna get traded to them. So, Kobe takes the call. I was sitting there. I might have heard some of the conversations, and I might have heard Dwight asking him about LA and, you know, some of the off-the-court things. Kobe got off the phone and said, ‘This s–t ain’t gonna work.’ This is before he even laced up with him one time. He said, ‘His head ain’t right. I’m here to help you get championships. You’re asking me about producers?’ He’s like, ‘This ain’t gonna work.’” Said, Rose.
Dwight Howard on what Jalen Rose spoke on the Podcast
After Jalen Rose spoke about it, it was deemed to be if it was untrue, Dwight Howard would come forward with the lie Jalen Rose was saying. The Lakers star came forward to shut Jalen Rose, “none of it ever happened”, said Dwight Howard. It will not change anything, even if the story told by Jalen Rose is true, because the matter of fact is, the trade didn’t reap any benefits out of it, getting Dwight Howard on the team, as the next season playoffs resulted in a first-round knockout by the San Antonio Spurs.
Just after one season, Dwight Howard was on the move, after his departure, it was then when Kobe Bryant called out on Howard, calling him ‘soft’ among many other things. The Lakers didn’t win a championship till Howard came back to the Lakers in 2020, where he was teamed up with one of the best Lakers side, which had LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Rajon Rondo, Danny Green, Alex Caruso, JaVale McGee, and many others. The Lakers then won their title against the Miami Heat.
