“Not anyone but you”: Stephen A. Smith delivers harsh reality-check upon LeBron James and Lakers

Stephen A. Smith and LeBron James

After a 13-13 run start for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2021-22 season, many believe that the purple and old army have not justified their star-studded roster just yet. With hopes of the LeBron James led team getting back upon its feet emerging every second game, analyst Stephen A. Smith has dismissed the desire to see this particular team run for the championship, this current season and he feels the King has no one to blame but himself.

Stephen A. Smith was one of the few analysts who thought LeBron James led Lakers comprising of Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Kendrick Nunn, Trevor Ariza among many others will add its second championship within 3 years. But given the competitiveness shown by other teams in the Western and Eastern Conference, Smith feels it will not be the case for the Lakers in the 2021-22 season anymore.

Lakers News: What was opinionated by Stephen A. Smith upon LeBron James

He ain’t winning a championship in LA. If you got a shot, this is the year, and as far as I’m concerned, it ain’t gonna happen because at least two teams–possibly four teams–in the West are better than them. And that doesn’t even take into account the Eastern Conference. Ain’t happening,Smith explained.

When asked who should LeBron James blame if their championship window has indeed closed, Smith noted that the Lakers superstar can only put it on himself. After all, he has a major role in the team’s roster decisions.

“LeBron James is LeBron James. Russell Westbrook is there because LeBron James signed off on it. Anthony Davis is there because LeBron James wanted that badly [and he] signed off on it. The players that are gone … they’re not going if LeBron James said ‘What are we doing, don’t get rid of those dudes.’ I’m not saying he’s the one that went to the front office and said ‘Do it,’ but the bottom line is they would have not done it if they didn’t have his blessing.”

Some might suggest Stephen A. Smith being an early predictor, but if LeBron wants these claims to shrug off, he surely has to start leading the Lakers in a much better way. More importantly the Frank Vogel coached side will start to compete at the highest level sooner rather than later.
