With five games left in the regular season for the Los Angeles Lakers to make a serious comeback, things are still not going their way. Anthony Davis made his debut after succumbing to a major ankle injury. However, the Lakers lost to his former team the New Orleans Pelicans which was a must-win in their case.
The Lakers are currently out of the play-in tournament berths which may be serious if they fail to win or if the team above them wins any further. So far the team has lost five games in a row nor have they shown signs of a comeback. They are currently the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a record of 31 wins and 46 losses. The Lakers’ playoff hopes continue to depreciate each passing game.

Unfortunately, the Lakers had to suffer an eight-point deficit against NOLA last night and this is the second time they have lost to the same team in a week. The Pelicans had pushed past the Lakers during the last four minutes of the game and concluded with 114-111 on the board. Anthony Davis returned to the squad after a two-month hiatus.
LeBron James tried to carry the team home but only took it as far as he could finishing with 38 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Davis had a fairly decent game scoring 23 points along with 12 rebounds, and 6 assists on 8 for 17 shooting. During the post-game press conference, Davis opened up about his health. He said, “I felt good. Last four minutes were definitely a struggle getting a little sore but until that point, I felt really good.

In an unbearably upset by the Pelicans, LeBron gave a very critical analysis of the game saying, “The big picture is that it pretty much was a must-win for us, and we didn’t get the job done. We had great opportunities throughout the night, and we didn’t make much plays down the stretch. So that’s the big picture.” James shot 13 on 23 from the field, during the final five minutes he shot 0-3 from the field. Davis shot 0-2 and Russell Westbrook missed out on some opportunities as well.
During that period, the Lakers led the game by five points but the Pelicans somehow stripped their defense and went on a 13-4 run. Davis who was seemingly disappointed with the outcome showed signs of hope for their following game against Denver. “Our mindset is to go 5-0 in these games, and let the chips fall where they want. We dropped this one. But, we’ve got five left to try to control what we can control and hopefully things fall in our favor.”
