“Out of all of them, he’s the best” Kevin Garnett picks Karl-Anthony Towns as a better scoring center than MVP favorites Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic
Karl Anthony-Towns and Kevin Garnett
This past week has been a rough one for the Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl Anthony-Towns. In a Timberwolves win against the Lakers 104-124, Towns had walked into a heated moment making fun of Russell Westbrook. The point guard had air-balled an open three-pointer after with Towns and his teammate signaled to the crowd in a sarcastic manner poking fun at the missed attempt.
The player and the team received heavy criticism for their actions towards to Lakers. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith got angered by the incident calling it a “classless” move by the Wolves players. Trash talk is a staple during NBA games, KAT took major offense towards the comment and fired back at Smith on social media. KAT was furious over the amount of hate he had been receiving for something that is considered a staple in sports games.
Karl Anthony-Towns earns his third all-star selection as Timberwolves make a playoff push
This season, the NBA All-Star is averaging 24.9 points per game along with 9.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He has been shooting exceptionally well averaging 52.9% from the field and 41.2% from three as a center. He is also an impressive free throw shooter averaging 82.5% from the line which is better than the King’s percentage from the line. This earned him his third All-Star selection and has also brought the team into playoff rankings.
During the NBA All-Star games, KAT participated and won the three-point contest with a score of 29, beating the previous record of 28 set by former college teammate Devin Booker. Ever since the All-Star games, the T-Wolves have had a great run in the regular season winning 11 of their last 13 games. Towns also averaged better than the first half of the season with 26.9 points shooting 55.7% from the field and 42.9% from three.
Former Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett ranks Karl Anthony-Towns higher than top MVP candidates
Based on how well Karl Anthony-Towns has been performing, it comes as no surprise that the comparisons are rolling in with the top big men of the league. Another former top big man himself, Kevin Garnett opened up about his views on the current Timberwolves center. He said, “I like Embiid, as the best big in the league but I actually watch how they double-team him, I watch how he throws out, I watch how if he’s making other players better that’s where it kinda gets more shifty for me.”
“I think KAT out of all of them is the better scorer. But Joker is able to get everybody, he comes off like the Bill Walton, you remember Bill Walton was dropping and dipping? He comes off like that.” Towns was selected number one overall by the Timberwolves in 2015 and he had the opportunity to play with KG for an entire season before retirement right after that season. “It’s crazy for me. When I came into the league, playing with such a legend like that, and being able to not only call him a teammate but more like a brother, not even a friend.”
