Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury Both Reached Finals; A Feat Happened for First Time Since 2002

It is the first time since the 2002 season that both NBA and WNBA teams of a city have it into the respective finals in the same year. With Phoenix Suns earlier competing against Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals, the Phoenix Mercury has now entered the finals to lock horns against Chicago Sky in the WNBA Finals. In a 5-match classic final series, it will be interesting to see whether the women team can be able to redeem the pride of the city.
Where on one hand it was Chris Paul and Devin Booker leading the proceedings for the men’s team. On the other, it is Diana Taurasi who led Phoenix Mercury to their fifth birth in the WNBA Finals after they inched past Las Vegas Aces in a thrilling encounter in Game 5, where they winner was decided in the last seconds.

The Mercury went undefeated vs Chicago this season, winning 84-83 on June 1, 77-74 on June 3 and 103-83 on August 31. Five Sky players are averaging double figures in the playoffs: Kahleah Copper at 18.2, Courtney Vandersloot at 14.0, Candace Parker at 13.3, Allie Quigley at 13.3 and Azura Stevens at 10.8.
With the first way all wrapped, it is Mercury who trail the 5-match series by 0-1. However, will they be able to finally fetch a championship ring for their city of Phoenix after the Suns failed to do so? Remains to be seen.
Talking about the Phoenix Suns, who are set to start their NBA 2021-22 Season campaign against Nikola Jokic led Denver Nuggets from October 20.
After losing their first ore season game against the Sacramento Kings, the Suns fought hard to register their first win of the new season against the mighty LA Lakers, having to play the same team again on October 10. Suns’ last preseason game will be against Portland Trail Blazers on October 13.
