Russell Westbrook and Lakers finally on the same page on finding him a new home

Russell Westbrook and Lakers finally on the same page on finding him a new home

On one hand where Russell Westbrook was expected to be make LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ scoring prowess untouchable, some fans predicted the former MVP to flop in a star-studded squad. Little did anyone saw it coming, the latter fan base’s theories came to life as Brodie kept getting into the bad books of each and every Laker fan, game after game. To an extent to which, the Laker Nation wanted him to be traded in just half-a-season.

Safe to say, the future Hall of Famer has failed to produce the same level of consistency and efficiency, we were used to see. Now, with the Los Angeles Lakers deciding to stick by him on trade deadline and not opt for John Wall, because their contracts were somewhat similar, it seems like both these concerned parties have finally come onto the same page.

As per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Reports, “In any case, there is mutual interest in finding Westbrook a new home this summer,” sources said.

The Lakers’ trade deadline discussions with the Houston Rockets for a potential Russell Westbrook-John Wall swap didn’t generate significant traction, sources said, as the Lakers were resistant to including their 2027 first-round pick in any deal to offload Westbrook’s salary. League observers have pointed to this offseason as a greater opportunity for the Lakers to shed Westbrook’s contract, when they will be eligible to move their 2029 first-round pick.

To bring everyone on the same page, as Fischer noted, the Lakers could stretch Westbrook’s $47 million player option for 2022-23, have him opt-in, then waive him. Even though they’d be on the books for $15 million across the next three seasons, it’s still a way for LA to get rid of Russell Westbrook.

Having said all that, Russell Westbrook and LeBron James will be keeping all of this chaos aside for now. Now with the purple and gold army on the verge of slipping from a play-in tournament berth as well, will the dynamic duo be able to produce the unthinkable comeback in Davis’ absence.
