Russell Westbrook trade status and scenario with Lakers, revealed by NBA Insider ahead of the deadline
Russel Westbrook and Adrian Wojnarowski
With the trade deadline coming into the touching distance, the Lakers chances of trading Russell Westbrook out may have gone from slim to slimmer, as Adrian Wojnarowski predicts about the current situation with the Lakers and Westbrook.
The current situation within the Lakers regarding Russell Westbrook
Los Angeles Lakers season has been circling around their acquisition of Russell Westbrook for filling in the role as a point guard and how he is not the right fit for them. LeBron James says that there is not just a single individual responsible for the team surfing below .500 mark, “We’re all in the foxhole together. There is not one guy who is doing it by themselves. There’s not one guy you can blame over another guy. There’s not one guy who gets the praise over another guy. When we lose, we all lose. When we win, we all win. It’s really that simple.”
General Manager Rob Pelinka is in regular touch with LeBron James and Anthony Davis about potential trades to be made before the deadline, however, there seems like there are not going to be any. The only player to have played all the games this season is Russell Westbrook, but even then, he is averaging 18.3 points, 7.6 assists, and 7.8 rebounds, this, however, is even worse than what he was averaging the previous season with the Washington Wizards. He is averaging his worst ever season since 2009.
Adrian Wojnarowski on Russell Westbrook’s status
Russell Westbrook has been riding the pine this entire season, with the Lakers head coach Frank Vogel keeping Russell Westbrook down the pecking order even below Malik Monk, the whole perspective is put into play when Frank Vogel decided to bench Westbrook in earlier games and looking to trade out the 9-time All-Star. Things don’t seem to be going in favor of the Lakers as they won’t be able to trade him out.
There are rumors circulating that the Lakers were in touch with the Houston Rockets to take Russell Westbrook and give John Wall their way, the Rockets were willing to pay the massive contract, but they also wanted a first-round pick in the future 2027 in the NBA draft. According to the ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN said, “It’s going to be very difficult to trade Russell Westbrook”
