“Oh Wait, his dad was the coach”- Warriors’ announcer takes “unnecessary” dig at Austin Rivers
Austin Rivers and Steph Curry
In the current season of NBA many players have shined after improving their game for their franchise, Austin Rivers is one of them. He has got the chance to prove himself as a big player for Nuggets after he joined them last season. Till now Austin was acting as the role player but now it seems that he has started getting more minutes in the game, after he signed an extension contract with Nuggets.
But, during a game when Golden State Warriors hosted Denver Nuggets on 28th December, Warriors announcers started making fun of Austin Rivers when he was taking a free throw, they even made fun of Rivers massive extension contract while playing for LA clippers, announcers commented that he got the contract because of Nepotism as his father, Doc Rivers was the head coach.

Warriors announcers comment on Austin Rivers.
During commentary, they said, “He signed a big contract extension. Oh, wait, his dad was the coach.” They also added, father of Austin, Doc Rivers should have given his son the money directly. This comment of the announcer feels completely rude and unnecessary as Austin is playing his 9th NBA season.
Rivers has played a great role in supporting the team as a guard whenever the team needed it the most. Rivers has played for almost 10 franchises in the NBA since his debut, even his game has evolved since then. It’s completely wrong to give accredit River’s achievement to his father’s job, it doesn’t feel right.
Comments from announcers were completely abiding bitterness on Austin Rivers when he played for Houston Rockets in 2019 when Warriors beat Rockets in the western conference semi-finals.
