When Damian Lillard buried ICONIC long-range dagger to clinch playoff series at the buzzer
Looking back at Dame Dolla's most clutch moment
Damian Lillard
Damian Lillard is one of the greatest shooters to ever play the game. He has a history of big games, sinking long-range treys, making wild game winners to high-scoring games, Lillard has everything on his resume. Since the very start, Lillard’s long-range game has had a lot of impact on the game. Damian is also one of the most loyal players in the franchise, playing for the Portland Trailblazers ever since.
Not only is he a great shooter, but one of the most clutch players in the league too. Though he hasn’t been so dominant in the playoffs lately, as the Blazers failed to make the postseason this year. Lillard’s game-winner list is one to watch. He has sent teams home after sinking unbelievable shots on the buzzer. One such game-winner was when Dame faced the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2019 postseason.
The Blazers faced the Thunder in the first round of the playoffs in 2019. OKC was stacked with two of the elite scorers, Paul George and Russell Westbrook. After taking a 3-1 lead, the Blazers hosted OKC for Game 5. This game went down the wire, as PG13 and Dame went at each other. It was a constant back and forth between the two. With under 15 seconds to go in the fourth, the game was tied at 115-115.
The Blazers had the last possession as Lillard brought the ball upcourt. After getting some time off the clock, Lillard stepped back for a 40-foot deep three. Dame knocked it down with ease, closing out the Thunders’ season. This was not only Lillard’s best game-winner, but one of the most iconic in NBA history. Dame finished the game with 50 points, sinking 10 triples as well. The following series was also a success for the Blazers, led by Dame. Though they hold off the Warriors in the Conference Finals, it was a pretty successful season for Portland.
Damian Lillard always has the game tempo under control
Dame and the Blazers were down 15 in the same game, though Lillard had just the plan to keep things under control. “We knew what type of game it was going to be, and once I realized we didn’t have it going to start the game, I knew I was going to have to be more aggressive to start and I was able to see some shots go in…”, said Lillard following his buzzer beater.
It was a neck-to-neck game, though Dame’s time strikes, in the end, to deliver yet another shot to seal the series. Lillard had made a similar game-winner versus the Houston Rockets in the 2014 Conference Semi-Finals.
The Blazers have been struggling ever since CJ McCollum left the team. Lillard and company seem to push their all, but couldn’t quite get the job done. With Dame determined to stay in Portland, how long do you think till Lillard’s first championship? Let us know in the comments.
