“When your starting point is LeBron James and Anthony Davis, there is a chance” Coach Frank Vogel gets brutally honest despite Lakers struggles in 2021-22 season

Frank Vogel, the coach of Los Angeles Lakers who have had a terrible performance almost all season opened up about what he thought of the team’s chances this season, showing optimism and faith in his “pillar” players of the team, who haven’t been very consistent throughout the season, keeping in mind the injuries and often simply their bad performances.
The Lakers currently stand at the 9th position in the Western Conference with a sub-par record of 26-28 so far, having lost 6 of their last 10 matches, which simply highlights the struggles the team has had to face all season long, which include the inadequate efforts by their players, inconsistent nature of play by the Lakers’ main trio and also allegations of a few of their players of destroying the team and it’s spirit.
Despite the performance of the team and specifically a few players whose presence initially in the season meant a tough time for all the other teams in the league and now it means nothing less than disappointment, their coach Frank Vogel gave his honest opinions about their chances and how he felt that the presence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis could help them turn the tides in their favour.
Frank Vogel optimistic about Lakers’ chances this season due to LeBron James and Anthony Davis
Frank Vogel highlighted the importance of the LeBron James and Anthony Davis duo when he said the presence of both of these players could put all the things in their favour, including their chances of qualifying for the playoffs this season.
The Lakers definitely haven’t had the kind of run this season that they would’ve initially expected from themselves, and keeping in mind their names on paper, which include LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russel Westbrook and many more big names, they were expected to destroy almost all the teams they would face in the league.
Eventually with what we have seen from them, it doesn’t seem like their combinations really played out well in any scenario, wherein Anthony Davis remained injured for a really long while, Russell Westbrook didn’t perform consistently and his shooting remained a cause of concern, and LeBron James had to take the entire burden of taking the team forward on his shoulders, which didn’t give them the results they wanted. Instead, it gave them a lot of criticism for the kind of performances these players showed in the entire season.

Despite all of this being said and all the heat and criticism they have had to face all this time, their coach Frank Vogel believes that their main players are the only one who will come to their rescue, and Vogel seems to be residing in LeBron James and Anthony Davis to do that as he says that having both of them in itself is a powering force for the team, due to which they can not lose hope for this season as well.
Vogel said “When your starting point is LeBron James and Anthony Davis, you got a chance”, adding to which he also said, “you know and with Russell’s body at work and the way Malik is playing and out centers and our wings and our shooters, like if it all comes together with the starting point being LeBron and AD, you got a chance, so the optimism going to be strong.”
Lakers’ Future this season
Despite the comments made by Frank Vogel, it seems difficult for the Lakers to get their hands at the Championship this season, in fact, the Championship dream is farfetched, even getting an opportunity to play in the playoffs seems tough at this point, keeping in mind the narrow chances that they have.
With the record that the Lakers have had so far and the matches they have to play against the creamy layer of opponents, making it to the playoffs would require them a miracle, and nothing less than that.
The players seem to have a changed mindset with Russel Westbrook saying “When we get to the playoffs, its 0-0” also highlighting that the regular season performances will be a learning experience for them and nothing more than that, and they would not feel pulled back by their performances in the past.
Frank Vogel showing that kind of confidence in his team is definitely commendable and now the players also need to change gears if they intend to remain in championship contention this year.
