PV Sindhu lost 12-21, 5-21 to Carolina Marin in Swiss Open final

Ace Indian badminton player PV Sindhu suffered a crushing defeat against arch-enemy Carolina Marin during the 2021 Swiss Open final on Sunday. The Spanish shuttler won a one-sided match 21-12, 21-5 to lift the championship. Soon after the loss, critics once again questioned Sindhu’s form in recent times.

This defeat also witnessed Sindhu scoring the least points against the rampaging Spaniard in 14 meetings. However, the 25-year old backed herself for the tournaments lined up ahead. Her next big challenge would be the All England Championships, which is scheduled from March 17 onwards.

Sindhu said that it wasn’t her day during the final and she gave away easy points to Marin. This helped the opponent gain a massive lead during the initial few moments of the match and became really difficult for her to make a comeback. The seventh-seed also mentioned that she is facing the Spanish shuttler after a long period and it won’t be the same when they next lock horns.

“I would say it wasn’t my day and I think it was not the right strategy and I continuously gave her points, even though I wanted to come into my rhythm. I think I gave her a huge lead early, so yes, that was the whole point. But I have a lot to learn from that. I was playing Carolina after a very long time, so the next time I play against her, I think it would definitely be different,” Sindhu told Sports View.
