A lot of experts hailed the Cowboys for taking the call to release him. While Stephen A Smith had claimed that Amari is a great talent but overpaid, Skip Bayless had termed the Wide Receiver as a colossally quiet disappointment. What comes as the latest twist in the tale, the Cleveland Browns have actually agreed to acquire Cooper.

As per Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys, in exchange will get a 2022 fifth-round draft pick and a swap of 2022 sixth-rounders. The trade is expected to be finalized by March 16. Many claimed that Cooper was actually paid way more than he deserved which the Cowboys are looking to rectify.

By his standards, Cooper didn’t have the best of seasons last time around. He ended up with 865 yards on 68 receptions and eight touchdowns in 15 games. Moreover, he had to sit out for two games last season as he had tested COVID positive. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs for his new team.

When OBJ was traded to the Rams by the Browns, the wide receiver was under a lot of pressure. He wasn’t able to perform as per expectations for the Browns and the fact that Baker Mayfield was having an awful season made OBJ’s stay at Cleveland even tougher.

However, OBJ turned things around for himself and his new team, and in the end, the Rams ended up winning the Super Bowl with Odell registering impeccable numbers. This led the NFL fans to believe that maybe the Browns ended up giving all the attention towards solving a problem that wasn’t there while leaving the actual wound untreated.

Fans and experts brutally reprimanded Baker Mayfield for his performances as the Browns’ offense was really looking sub-par in many of the games. Despite all the criticism, the Browns are likely to retain Mayfield and in order to add strength to the squad, they have roped in Cooper.

While we can keep discussing the ifs and buts, it is true that the 2022 season is going to be a huge one for Mayfield. He has been through a lot in the previous season and OBJ’s trade made things even worse for him and his team. Whether Cooper can turn out to be a perfect support for him is something only time will tell.
