Enes Kanter and Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick was given a sliver of hope to reignite his football career by the Las Vegas Raiders when the team asked him to try out for them. There are rumors that the Raiders were quite impressed by the former 49ers’ QB but there hasn’t been any official statement released bu y the team to show their interest in signing Kaepernick.

Kaepernick became a free agent in 2017 and has remained inactive since. He is a civil rights activist and continues to show his support for minority communities. The 34-year-old created one of the biggest controversies in the country when he took a knee during the national anthem in the entire 2016 season. He claimed that the NFL forced him out of the league for showing his support against police brutality, racial discrimination, and other major social injustices gripping the minorities in the United States.

Former Boston Celtics center, Enes Kanter Freedom, who is currently a free agent in the NBA is also a human rights activist. In October 2021, Kanter called out Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China as a “brutal dictator” and extended his support for the Free Tibet movement on Twitter. He also led a rally in Washington, D.C. pledging the U.S. Congress to pass the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which would limit imports coming in from China in areas where the country oppresses UyghursKazakhs, and Kyrgyz minorities. These minorities are from Kanter’s home, Turkey.

It’s no surprise that Kanter and Kaepernick are friends. The 2011 NBA third overall pick has repeatedly called out premium sports brand Nike for their close relationship with Nike. However, their friendship has seemed to end. During an interview on Outkick’s Tomi Lahren is Fearless Kanter became candid about his relationship with Kaepernick and how the quarterback has started to ignore him. “After I started to talk about the problems happening in China and started to criticize Nike and some other companies, I lost him. There’s no answer. I’m just hoping inside that he hasn’t seen my text messages,” Enes Kanter said.

This may stem from the fact that Colin Kaepernick had signed a massive deal with Nike back in 2018. Maybe Kaepernick is an activist only if it favors him. At least Enes Kanter calls out injustice all around the globe and fights for the rights of the oppressed people. Kaep should learn from Kanter and fight for what’s right even if it costs him his lucrative deal.

But it is highly unlikely that Kaepernick would risk losing all that money and shed some light on Nike’s ties to China. He is fine with painting America as an awful place to live but isn’t concerned about the company’s ties to a country that continues to oppress minorities. He should definitely pick up his phone and get some much needed tips from Kanter.
