Tom Brady officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday morning. Brady’s retirement shook the entire NFL, even though it was anticipated. Wishes from everyone in the league as well as athletes from all over the world started pouring in, congratulating Brady on his legendary career.

Among Brady’s well-wishers was his former coach, Bill Belichick. The two of them were together for 2 decades and created a dynasty that no one in the legacy can overthrow. However, Belichick and the Patriots were missing from Brady’s retirement statement which raised many eyebrows.

“I am privileged to have drafted and coached Tom Brady, the ultimate competitor and winner,” Belichick said in a statement. “Tom’s humble beginning in professional football ultimately ended with him becoming the best player in NFL history. Tom consistently performed at the highest level against competition that always made him the number one player to stop. His pursuit of excellence was inspirational.”

In 2000, Bill Belichick believed in a kid who was ignored by every team in the NFL, selected him 199th in the draft, and turned him into a 6x Super Bowl Champion. Under Belichick and Brady, the New England Patriots won six Super Bowls, nine AFC championships, and 17 AFC East titles. No NFL dynasty before or during the Super Bowl era can match their success.

The Patriots and then 42-year old Tom Brady parted ways in 2020 and Brady signed with the Buccaneers. Belichick called Brady the “greatest quarterback of all time,” and Brady offered an extended thanks to his coach and the organization and deemed himself “forever a Patriot.”
