“If they lose the Super Bowl, it’s a failure.” Ryan Clark amps up the pressure on Matthew Stafford and the LA Rams

Matthew Stafford and Ryan Clark

Matthew Stafford and the LA Rams have gone all-in on this season with the hopes of bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Los Angeles. The midseason additions of star talent like Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. only back up their all-or-nothing philosophy for this 2021 season.

Before the big-name additions, the blockbuster trade for Matthew Stafford which included Jared Goff, two first-round picks, and a third-rounder was enough for people to believe that they wanted a ring and they weren’t gonna wait around for Jared Goff to develop into the quarterback they needed.

Trading two 2022 draft picks for Von Miller was even more commitment from the Rams showing their desire to win immediately. While it could pay off, if they fall short of that ring this season, it could be viewed as a failure of a season and Ryan Clark certainly thinks so.

Matthew Stafford has to deliver a Super Bowl ring this season

Appearing on ESPN’s ‘First Take’ Ryan Clark had this to say about the Rams season “Anything less (than a Super Bowl) is unacceptable. Anything less for the Los Angeles Rams this year is a failure. This is a team that went all the way in. You get Matthew Stafford for one reason. You said that what Jared Goff was capable of doing was not enough. Well all Jared Goff did a few years back was get you to a Super Bowl. Stafford was brought there to bring a ring and nothing else.”

Clark also added “Then you think about Von Miller, going out and getting Odell Beckham Jr., you have done everything you possibly can to make this rendition, this team, the best team the Los Angeles Rams have had. The most star power that has ever been on the field in Los Angeles and you have to go win it now. If you lose to San Francisco, if you lose in the Super Bowl, it is all a failure.”

To sum up his point, Clark finished by saying “It doesn’t matter who they’re up against. Jared Goff got you that. This team was put together to win the Super Bowl not just get there. They’re not there to just compete, to just participate. This team has to win it all. They have all the pieces together to win a championship.”

The Rams have had anything but a straightforward season and a lot of that had to do with Matthew Stafford and his level of play and issues with turnovers. Since the postseason has begun he seems to be the Stafford that started the season and all the previous woes are behind them. It’s not a case of going up against Brady or Rodgers to get to the Super Bowl now and in the Super Bowl they may have to face Mahomes but it’s not meant to be easy. This team has too much invested in it to not be a Super Bowl winning team.
