Mike McCarthy provides a crucial update about Dak Prescott after his shoulder surgery
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott had a remarkable season in 2021 after coming back from a gruesome ankle injury in 2020. His season was capped off by a Dallas Cowboys franchise record of 37 touchdown passes in a single season.
Despite his success, the playoffs were a different story. Dak Prescott hardly had an impact in the Cowboys’ wild card playoff game as his offense was completely shut down by the 49ers’ defense. Some late game mistakes allowed the Cowboys to get within one score but they were never really in the game.
What stings more is that on the final drive, Prescott made a crucial mistake that ended up costing the Cowboys the game. It was a bang-bang play but had he slid earlier, the Cowboys may have had one last shot at the endzone to try and win the game.
It was recently revealed that Prescott possibly played a part of the season with a lingering non-throwing shoulder injury. While that wasn’t expected to have affected his performance, it still had to have a bit of an impact. Mike McCarthy recently revealed some details about Prescott’s shoulder surgery.
Dak Prescott had shoulder surgery but isn’t expected to miss any time
Mike McCarthy appeared at the NFL combine press conferences where he was asked about Dak Prescott saying “He’s back at it. He’s been in the building. Actually, he was one of, I think we had, one of eight players that had postseason surgery. He had a clean-up of his left shoulder, so it’s something that needed to be done. So he’s rehabbing that. He’s starting his process of getting back into it.”
Indicating that the surgery was just a minor operation is crucial for Dak Prescott. This Cowboys team is one of the best we’ve seen in recent years with Prescott being a pivotal part of it. He needs to be at his best to help the team win a Super Bowl.
Last year, because of his ankle surgery, he missed time in the Cowboys offseason programs. It’s not clear whether or not that had a large impact on his season but regardless, him being fully available is for the best. Now he just needs to focus on remaining healthy throughout the season and finally ending that Cowboys Super Bowl drought.
