On Saturday, the No.4 ranked Washington Huskies went against the unranked Washington State Cougars in a Pac-12 showdown. The Huskies ended up winning the game after struggling a bit early in the game. Before the much-anticipated college football matchup between the two conference rivals, Washington linebacker Zion Tupuola-Fetui shared an emotional moment with his mother.

In a short video posted by Fox College Football on X, Zion Tupuola-Fetui — whose father passed away last month — could be seen running towards his mom with a photo frame of what seemed like a family picture in his hands. He was sobbing as he ran towards his mom with the pictures. Then, the linebacker shared an emotional hug with his mother as tears flowed through his eyes.

Later, Fox’s sideline Allison Williams shared that Zion Tupuola-Fetui lost his father just a month ago and Saturday would’ve been his parents’ 26th anniversary. He learned of his father’s passing shortly after the Huskies defeated the Stanford Cardinal 42-33 in a tough road game.

It seems like Tupuola-Fetui was overwhelmed with emotions on Saturday before the Washington Huskies’ crucial rivalry game against the Washington State Cougars.

Tupuola-Fetui registered two tackles in the game and played a good role on the defense to help his team secure a victory. But, surprisingly, the Cougars managed to put up a tough fight against the No.4 ranked team in the entire nation.

However, the Huskies’ Heisman Trophy front runner Michael Penix Jr. led his team to their 12th victory of the ongoing season. With that victory, the Huskies remain undefeated this season and have a real shot at making it to the college football playoffs.

If the Huskies end up getting ranked in the AP Top 4, it will be their first trip to the CFP playoffs since 2016. In fact, it will be the first time a Pac-12 team has made it to the postseason since 2016. No other Pac-12 team has been ranked to play in the postseason since the Huskies did it 6 seasons ago.
