The college football season is near its end. It was a thrilling and entertaining season and the audience enjoyed every bit of it. The list of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy of 2023 has been revealed and four players from different teams have made their places.
This year’s favorites are Jayden Daniels from LSU, Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michael Penix Jr. of Washington and Bo Nix. of Oregon.
Surprisingly (or maybe not), this year’s Heisman trophy has not offered any place to Caleb Williams. Williams is last year’s winner. He had a poor season with his team, the USC Trojans. The QB failed miserably against the top-ranked team and also had a few interceptions in the games where he was expected to perform the best.
Coming to the list, three out of four are quarterbacks. Marvin Harrison Jr. is the only non-QB footballer who made his place in the list. The wideout had an exceptional season with Ohio State. He registered 67 receptions for 1,211 yards. The former Ohio State QB CJ Stroud, who is presently enjoying his time at the Houston Texans, once said that it would be an injustice if Harrison Jr. does not win the trophy this season.
Marvin Harrison Jr. has a tough fight for the Heisman Trophy
Apart from him, all three favorites are quarterbacks. Jayden Daniels had a top-notch season this year. He registered 50 touchdowns for a whooping 3,812 passing and more than 1,100 rushing yards. He created a record by covering 350 yards of passing and 250 yards of rushing in a single game.
Bo Nix so far had 4,145 yards of passing, with 228 yards of rushing, with 90 combined touchdowns.
The Washington Huskies sealed the Pac-12 championship this year and people can’t deny the role of Michael Penix Jr. With 33 TDs for a whooping 4,218 yards, he might just etch his name on the title.
With such high competition, one cannot deny that Marvin Harrison Jr. has a tough road. Quarterbacks usually are at the forefront to win the Heisman Trophy. DeVonta Smith was the last WR who won the trophy in 2020. It will be seen, whether Harrison Jr. manages to win it this year.
