Brock Purdy, Mr. Irrelevant, the San Francisco 49ers’ incredible quarterback, has had a phenomenal season. He has led the Niners to an 11-3 record through 15 weeks and has established himself as one of the MVP candidates in the process. Purdy’s rise to the national spotlight and MVP conversations has been spectacular and very sudden. That is a major reason why some former players and pundits are finding it difficult to wrap their heads around the QB’s elite play.

One such former player and current podcast host who has labeled Purdy as nothing more than a game-manager is Cam Newton. The former Carolina Panthers quarterback knows all about winning the MVP award as he was the league’s MVP in 2015. However, even with Purdy’s superb production this season, Newton still believes that the Niners’ QB isn’t a game-changer and simply manages the game for his team.

Those comments have garnered a lot of attention from the media. Purdy’s teammate and one of the best tight ends in the league, George Kittle recently opened up about it on The Rich Eisen Show.

There's no one that manages the game quite like him. Isn't it wild? Brock's playing at an incredibly elite, high level consistently, week in and week out, 130 passer rating... doing everything that you're supposed to do as a quarterback.
Kittle said on the show
But just because he has good skill positions around him and a solid head coach and a pretty good defense, it's like, Oh, he doesn't get the credit for it because everyone's doing all the work for him. Well, we can't do any of that work unless he's the guy throwing the ball.

Purdy so far this season has thrown for 3,795 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions while completing 69.8 percent of his passes. He has a passer rating of 119.0 and has led the Niners to their second divisional title in a row.

Kyle Shanahan claims that Brock Purdy has a ‘God-given trait’ of field vision

The San Francisco 49ers are currently sitting pretty as the NFC’s top seed. A major reason for that is their quarterback, Brock Purdy who has been sensational throughout the season. He might not be the most naturally gifted player at his position in the league, but the Niners’ HC Kyle Shanahan believes that Purdy has a “God-given trait” that separates him from a lot of other QBs. That trait is field vision.

I think it's a God-given trait that develops.I don't think if you don't have it, it's not something that you can just develop. You have to have a certain amount of that and some are higher than others and some I think can make it better the more football they play and the more situations they get in.
Shanahan said of Purdy’s field vision.

The Niners played their last game against the Arizona Cardinals and won by 16 points. Purdy finished the game with an impressive 242 passing yards and four touchdowns. The Niners will play their next game against the Baltimore Ravens next Monday and will hope to keep this winning streak going.
