A.J. McCarron is a former NFL QB who currently plays in the XFL team St. Louis BattleHawks. The 32-year-old QB had an interesting career. He played in the NFL for eight seasons, but then moved on to a much smaller XFL league.

McCarron was drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round of the NFL draft and also had short stints with teams like the Houston Texans and the Oakland Raiders. However, the QB started to shine in the XFL, where currently he’s one of the best players in the league.

The QB was always allotted the backup role in the NFL and was never a starter in his eight seasons in the league. This helped him make the tough decision to move to the XFL despite having significantly less amount of money.

The former Bengals QB believes that making memories for his kids is more important than earning money as the backup of an NFL team. “Ever since I came out of college I’ve been counted out a little bit,” A.J. McCarron stated in the post-game interview. “My 6-year-old loves watching tapes of me on YouTube. That’s a big reason I chose to return this way”

McCarron is a rare athlete who has chosen game-time over getting huge amounts of money. The former NFL QB made the tough decision of moving to the XFL while there were still offers from NFL teams who wanted him as their backup QB.

However, A.J. McCarron loves the feeling of his kids watching him play and believes that he’s creating beautiful memories for them. “I probably could’ve tried to come back with an NFL team and had a chance to probably make bigger money. but no one knows what the future holds. I’m enjoying this and it’s a great way to create some memories for me and my boys,” McCarron elaborated.

The former Raiders’ QBs speech instantly went viral on social media and even caught the eye of the great Dwayne Johnson, who praised the 32-year-old and stated that his decision means a lot to him.

“Takes less money signing with us over the @NFL because he wanted his little boys to see him play. Now he’s 2-0 and led his team to back to back exciting last minute wins,” Dwayne Johnson wrote on Twitter.

A.J. McCarron has been a revelation for his news side and has led them to an exceptional 2-0 record at the start of the season. The 32-year-old is currently winning games and making memories for his children.
