On Sunday, the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs improved to 2-1 after demolishing the Chicago Bears in their week 3 matchup. Almost every single thing went perfectly for the Chiefs in that game except for some sloppy offensive penalties, which upset the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. The veteran head coach was mainly upset about the two penalties called on Kansas City’s offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor. In fact, Reid believes the officials are singling out Taylor since he has received so many penalties through the first 3 weeks of the 2023 NFL season.
“They have an eye on him,” Reid said of the officials’ focus on Taylor to Sports Radio 810. “It all started on the Thursday night game. You look around the league, and it’s just not consistent right now. That’s the important thing.”
Reid seemingly feels that the two penalties the officials called on the Chiefs’ left tackle, Jawaan Taylor, were a bit unfair. The veteran head coach felt like the officials were targeting Taylor to prove a point after Jawaan’s week 1 fiasco, which raised concerns on social media. Nonetheless, even after seeing the film on Monday, Reid doubled down on his take and called out the officials over their inconsistencies.
“Now that I’ve had a chance to look at it, I’ve even doubled down more on what I said yesterday,” Reid said. “They’ve got an eye on him. They better keep an eye on everybody else too. It’s to the point of being ridiculous. They got their point proved now out there to the world, so let’s make sure we’re staying consistent.”
During the NFL season opener earlier this month, a controversy arose as the officials failed to call a penalty on Jawaan Taylor, who repeatedly lined up way behind the line of scrimmage. Since that game, Taylor has received so many penalties in the Chiefs’ next two games. Reid feels like the officials are trying to prove a point by targeting him.
Andy Reid claims he set up Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
The biggest story of week 3 of the 2023 NFL season is the 33-year-old pop artist Taylor Swift attending the Chiefs-Bears game to support her alleged love interest Travis Kelce.
Following the game, Andy Reid was asked about Taylor Swift’s presence at the game by a reporter during the post-game press conference. Reid revealed that he wasn’t surprised by seeing Swift in the stands supporting his team. The head coach also joked about setting up the ‘Blank Space’ singer with the All-Pro tight end.
Nonetheless, Reid had a good week as his team demolished the Bears on the field on Sunday. Now, he would look to repeat a similar kind of victory for the Chiefs against the New York Jets, who they are scheduled to face this Sunday in their week 4 matchup.
