The Indianapolis Colts seemingly have their future franchise quarterback after they acquired the Florida QB Anthony Richardson in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Colts also drafted an offensive weapon for Richardson as they selected wide receiver Josh Downs in the third round. Both those players attended the rookie minicamp, which started on May 5.
After the first day of the camp, the highly touted quarterback Anthony Richardson addressed the media and talked about how happy he is to be playing for the Indianapolis-based football team.
“It feels good, I’m excited, I’ve just been all smiles. I’ve been grateful to be here, extremely thankful to be here,” said Richardson in the press conference. “Now all I gotta worry about is football. You get to play with great guys and we got great coaches. So I’m very thankful for the organization and I’m happy.”
During the draft process, the Colts reportedly were high on the Kentucky signal-caller Will Levis. However, during draft day, the Colts’ general manager Chris Ballard, went with Anthony Richardson instead.
Will Levis was eventually drafted by the Colts’ division rivals Tennessee Titans in the second round. Richardson and Levis could end up playing twice against each other every year for a long time. It’ll be a fun rivalry to watch.

Will Anthony Richardson start for the Colts in week 1?
Anthony Richardson is one of the most physically talented quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft class. That’s the main reason he ended up getting drafted in the top 5 by the Indianapolis Colts.
However, Richardson only started 13 games in Florida and has an abysmal completion percentage of 53.8 during his time with the Gators. His lack of experience and not-so-good accuracy would be a concern for many teams in the league but not for the Colts.
Instead of letting him sit behind a veteran quarterback for some time, the Colts are ready to throw Richardson into the fire straight away. “You get better by playing,” said the owner Jim Irsay. “I mean, practice and preseason games and watching in a quarterback room, that’s great. But, man, I’ll tell you, he’d get better by playing and it’s something that it is really important.”
The last time the Colts had their own franchise quarterback was back in the 2018 season when Andrew Luck was leading them. Fans are eager to see their future franchise QB in action. It wouldn’t be surprising to anyone if the Colts end up starting Anthony Richardson as soon as week 1 of the 2023 regular season.
