“The best guy to take him from high school prospect to NFL prospect”: Steve Sarkisian is the primary reason Arch Manning shocked everyone by choosing Texas over the SEC
Arch Manning and Steve Sarkisian
The Manning name is iconic in football. I would go as far as to add that the Manning’s are the first family of football. With a legacy that spans three generations of players that all began from Archie Manning who played for nearly 13 seasons in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints and the Houston Oilers. After his stint was up as an athlete, he became a coach to his children, Peyton, Eli, and Cooper Manning. He groomed them to be the best football players they could be and it’s fair to say he did a good job as Peyton’s in the Pro football hall of fame while Eli is a two-time Super Bowl champ and an icon in New York.
Cooper Manning did have a promising career as well but due to health issues, he was unable to continue playing but as they say, God always has a bigger plan and everyone gets their time, it’s Coop’s time to be on top of the world now. His son Arch Manning marks the third generation of the family with interest to become an NFL player. Arch recently committed to Texas football over the SEC which surprised a lot of the as the SEC is where the best prospects go, however, the league lacks one thing that the Manning family wanted, a coach with the capabilities of Steve Sarkisian.
Steve Sarkisian has groomed the likes of Matt Rhule, Jalen Hurts, Mac Jones, and Tua Tagovailoa
Which one of us would not want to play under a coach who knows what he’s doing and whose previous students are all starters in the NFL with the exception of Matt Leinart. Though the Manning family historically has always opted for the SEC division as the top schools and best players go there, this was bit surprising, however his uncles’ Peyton and Eli have stated on numerous occasions that they want Arch to go to a place that not only makes him a great quarterback but a great man. Steve Sarkisian not only has a high football IQ, he will teach Arch the ins and outs of the playbook while preparing him to be an NFL calibre player.
Arch really doesn’t need the guidance that the SEC coaches give as he has the two smartest and wisest footballs vets back home who will address his questions with just a phone call.
NFL analyst Pete Thamel believes that the family’s relationship with Sarkisian was an integral factor to send Arch to Texas. ” From talking to Nelson Stewart who’s the coach at Isidore Newman (Arch Manning’s school) and a long time friend of the Manning family, the relationship with Steve Sarkisian, the Texas Head Coach and one of the best offensive minds in College football. He was with the run of Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Mac Jones recently. He’s an experienced quarterback guy, experienced play caller, and he is clearly, the best guy that the Manning family thinks is to take Arch Manning from a high school prospect to an NFL prospect,” Thamel concludes.
Arch has a bright future ahead of him, we already know he has the Manning arm genetics and guidance of two of the best to ever play that position which already gives him a signi advantage over his peers but he also has the necessary work ethic to go with it. He is also not the same immobile quarterback that his uncles and grandfather was. Combine Peyton’s arm talent and add the ability to run the ball like a Lamar Jackson and you get Arch Manning. Though he still has a lot to work on, he is on the right track and in the right hands.
