The New York Jets have been dysfunctional ever since they lost their franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered an unfortunate injury during the Jets’ week 1 game of the 2023 NFL season. They went back to Zach Wilson to be their starting QB, which hasn’t been working out well for the Jets. Amidst this, experts want the New York-based football team to explore other options at the quarterback position.

Many names have been thrown out as the potential replacement for Aaron Rodgers in New York. One particular that has caught the interest of the fans is the Minnesota Vikings signal-caller Kirk Cousins.

Cousins is currently playing in the last year of his current contract with the Vikings and many predict that the Minnesota-based franchise will move on from Cousins in the 2024 off-season. Therefore, experts believe, the Vikings, who have started the season with 3 straight losses will look to trade Cousins and get some draft picks in return that would help them in their rebuild. And the perfect trade partner could be the Jets.

The Jets would give up a lot to acquire Cousins if they have the opportunity. So naturally the question arises, are the Jets looking to trade for Kirk Cousins as a replacement for Aaron Rodgers?

Well, according to Barstool’s Pardon My Take, the sources close to the Jets have confirmed that they are indeed interested in pursuing the Vikings’ Pro Bowl quarterback after they fell to 1-2 due to Zach Wilson’s yet another poor outing.

Naturally, the Jets would certainly be interested in acquiring Cousins, since he is the best available replacement for Rodgers. Apart from Cousins, the other possible options available are names such as Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, and Jameis Winston.

None of those three quarterbacks are currently a starter in the league except for Cousins. On the other hand, Kirk is not only a starter but has also been balling out for the Vikings in the first three weeks. So, the Jets certainly would be more interested in Cousins than the other QBs but the real question is, are the Vikings interested in trading their starting QB and giving up on their season?

Are the Vikings interested in trading Kirk Cousins to the Jets?

The Vikings are currently 0-3 and are almost out of the division title race. They could still end up winning the division but it would be very tough. Amidst this, experts are suggesting the Vikings trade Cousins away and get some draft picks that could help them in their rebuild. But are they willing to give up on their season yet?

According to the ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Vikings aren’t currently giving up on their season and they are not looking to trade Cousins to his knowledge. Schefter shared this insider news during his recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

“If you wait another couple of weeks, and you hope that you turn it around, maybe they do that and then they revisit it after five or six games, before the trade deadline. Ok. That’s the one that makes the most sense from all of our standpoints. The problem is, it doesn’t make as much sense to the Vikings and the Jets right now. At least not to my knowledge,” said Schefter.

Schefter further continued that it would be a bad message to trade Kirk Cousins and continue with Nick Mollins as the starting QB for the rest of the season. The NFL insider believes the Vikings are still hoping to turn their season around under Cousins and if they failed to do that before the trade deadline, they might revisit the trade option then.

In brief, multiple reports suggest the Jets are open to a trade for the Pro Bowl QB Kirk Cousins but the Vikings aren’t ready to give up on their season yet. If the Vikings’ struggle continues, then the Minnesota-based franchise will be open to trade Cousins to the Jets.
