The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII and continued to establish their dynasty. In the past five years, the Chiefs have been to the Super Bowl three times and won two of those encounters.
Thanks to one of the most dangerous offenses with Patrick Mahomes at the helm of it, it has been a challenge for teams to try and find a way to stop them. However, it seemed like they would struggle after star wide receiver and Mahomes’ favorite target, Tyreek Hill, left Kansas City to join the Dolphins. The Chiefs proved everyone wrong they weren’t dependent on Hill to put up points on the scoreboard.
Hats off to Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach to sign good receivers in free agency and get them ready. JuJu Smith-Schuster was quite profitable for the team as his contribution to the offense helped fill the gap left by Hill. Now, the Chiefs are looking for a new corps of receivers as most of them have been released or traded.

Odell Beckham Jr. might be the perfect fit for the Chiefs
Smith-Schuster had signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs and the AFC powerhouse hasn’t renewed his contract. Additionally, wide receiver Mecole Hardman has also been traded to the New York Jets so there aren’t any star players left for Mahomes to throw the ball to. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated brought in good news for Chiefs fans when he reported the team has shown interest in free agent Odell Beckham Jr. and Cardinals’ wideout DeAndre Hopkins.
It is now of utmost importance that Kansas City has at least one elite receiver down the field who can grab those difficult passes in the end zone. Granted they have Travis Kelce as well but how much work can he do all alone? The Chiefs currently have just $10 million left in cap space so while they have shown interest in both Beckham and Hopkins, it won’t be possible for them to sign them. It will all come down to cost.
A few days back, Odell Beckham Jr. explained that he wants at least a $4 million-a-year deal and not lower than that. Despite not playing a single snap the entire 2022 season, OBJ can command a high salary because he is a talented receiver. DeAndre Hopkins can be a great fit for Kansas City because he is still one of the best in the league despite the low production in the past two years.
While the Chiefs have “shown interest” in both receivers, it will be a herculean task to get them to sign. Odell Beckham Jr. is the most sought-after free agent right now and the Jets seem to be going all out now that Aaron Rodgers is on board. Hopkins hinted he would love to join the Buffalo Bills in a deleted tweet but he hasn’t been a popular trade option until now.
Let’s see which players the Chiefs add to their receiving corps for the next season. There is no doubt athletes would take a pay cut to play on a championship team. Let’s see what unfolds in the coming weeks.
