“WOAH”: Bill Belichick’s first-round pick at the NFL draft shocks the entire league

Bill Belichick is a very hard man to read, the Head Coach of the New England Patriots and the General Manager barely shows any emotions during his pressers, however, the man’s coaching IQ and ability to identify players’ potential are off the charts.

In the NFL Draft 2022, the Patriots had the 29th overall pick in the first round, the team was expected to draft more weapons on the offensive end such as wide-outs or tight-ends. However, Bill Belichick surprised all by picking Cole Strange, an offensive lineman out of Chattanooga.

Cole was predicted to go in the third or fourth round by every mock draft, the Patriots could have chosen players such as Nakobe Dean, Andrew Booth Jr, and many more. The Patriots let Shaq Mason and Ted Karras walk this postseason. This is probably a reason that the patriots decided to choose Cole Strange.

As per reports, Bill Belichick believed that the team would not be able to have picked the lineman at a later point in the draft. Some of the most hilarious reactions to the Patriot’s pick came from Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay, who exclaimed, “How about that, and we wasted our time watching him thinking he would be at 104 maybe.”

Bill’s reason for picking Cole was, “He’s long, he’s athletic. He’s physically tough. He’s an aggressive player, I think he has a good combination of skills, run and pass, movement, length, and strength, again, all of which will hopefully get better. Like they will with any player coming from college to the National Football League. But I think he has a good skill set, and he’s a smart player that makes a lot of good decisions on the interior line there, timing, when to come off, and combo blocks, things like that.”

Speaking to Cole Strange, he defined his playing style as “aggressive and relentless.” The Patriots have experience in drafting players from late rounds and turning them into gems. The best example is the goat Tom Brady himself. Other examples are Kyle Dugger who was drafted at the beginning of round two in the 2019 draft and became a good player for the team.
