The New England Patriots have had a disastrous 2023 campaign. They have a record of 3-11 after 14 games and are facing the possibility of a change in the team’s leadership next season. Bill Belichick, the longtime head coach of the Patriots, is rumored to lose his job at the end of the season. One candidate who is expected to replace Belichick is the Pats’ linebackers coach, Jerod Mayo.

Mayo played in the NFL for eight years and won one Super Bowl. He was drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2008 draft and played for them until his retirement in 2015.

He joined the team as their linebacker coach in 2019. Mayo is one of the candidates to replace Belichick, but there are reports suggesting that he is “rubbing people the wrong way” since signing an extension with the team last offseason.

Multiple team sources indicated Mayo has rubbed at least some people the wrong way in the building since his extension and when he, perhaps, received a strong indication he would be the successor.
According to Boston Sports Journal‘s Greg Bedard

Mayo has been working as the team’s de facto co-defensive coordinator in recent years.

The Patriots will look to end their season on a winning note as they visit Empower Field at Mile High next Sunday to take on the Denver Broncos. The Patriots storyline will be a fascinating one to follow during the offseason.

Bill Belichick is focused on the Pats’ next game against the Broncos

Bill Belichick has had a difficult season so far with the New England Patriots. The team has lost 11 of their 14 games so far this season. There are multiple reports of the Patriots moving on from Belichick after the season as owner Robert Kraft looks for a change in leadership. Belichick, however, is only focused on the Pats’ next game against the Denver Broncos.

I think any questions you have for Mr. Kraft, you should ask Mr. Kraft. . . . I mean, I don’t know. I don’t sit around and listen to talk radio and read stuff every day, so. I’m going to do what I do and prepare the team to get ready for Denver.
Belichick said during an appearance on WEEI

The Patriots failed to build on their win against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday as they dropped their latest game against the Kansas City Chiefs. They will look to win their next game against the Broncos.
