Are the Buffalo Bills trying a bit too hard for Damar Hamlin to get the NFL Comeback Player Award? Apparently, football fans on social media have figured it out.
Hamlin hasn’t been a big feature for the Bills since his life-threatening injury in January 2023. He only appeared in two games during the regular season, which just ended. Even though the Billsmafia wanted to see more of him, the dynamic safety failed to displace Micah Hyde from the starting spot.

But it came as a surprise to many when Bills head coach Sean McDermott decided to send the 25-year-old onto the field on Sunday night. Buffalo welcomed the Kansas City Chiefs to the Highmark Stadium for the AFC Divisional playoff tie.
Football fans on social media question Bill’s decision to send Damar Hamlin on in the Chiefs game
Hamlin came on after 3 minutes in the fourth quarter. Trailing 27-24 to the Chiefs, the crowd welcomed Hamlin. But there was a slight confusion among the Bills fans as to why he was coming on a fourth down.
Things took an interesting turn when McDermott opted for a fake punt, which did him no favor. Hamlin took the direct snap and tried to barge through the Chiefs defensive line, but was brought down well before the first down mark.

This intensified the debate about whether the Bills want Hamlin to win the Comeback Player of the Year award. He still had the upper hand before the Chiefs game, topping the list with Joe Flacco hot on his heels.
On January 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the pitch at Payrcor Stadium while facing the Cincinnati Bengals. The LSU graduate went down after tackling Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. He became unconscious, and allegedly, his heart stopped beating. The medical team took him to the nearby university hospital for further examination, where he stayed for a few days.
After a lengthy period of rehab, he started spreading awareness about CPR, which saved his life. He received several awards for his heroic return from the brink of death. Hamlin made his Bills return in a preseason friendly against the Las Vegas Raiders in August and played his first regular-season snaps in October against the Miami Dolphins.
The Bills drafted Hamlin during the 2021 NFL Draft in the 6th round. Since then, he has appeared in 38 games and amassed 98 tackles (including post-season football).
