All that everyone is talking about since the last month is Brock Purdy. The third-string quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers quickly rose to fame after he was named starter following injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.
Brock Purdy is having a dream run in his rookie season. From being the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the 23-year-old star has won his debut playoff appearance and has yet to face a defeat in his seven starts.
His exceptional performance against the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card game got him a shout-out from NBA superstar LeBron James. No other quarterback from Purdy’s class has been as dominant and consistent as him which has now earned him accolades from around the league.
Brock Purdy is having a breakout season in his rookie year
Purdy and the 49ers looked a little under the weather during the first half of the game. Purdy went 9-of-19 for a touchdown and it seemed like he was fazed a bit in the second quarter. Although after halftime, the 23-year-old regained his composure and tore through the Seahawks’ defense. He finished the game completing 18 of his 30 passes for 332 yards, 3 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown making history as the first rookie QB in the Super Bowl era to throw and run for a touchdown.
During the postgame interview when Purdy was made aware by a reporter that LeBron James praised the young rookie in a tweet. Purdy couldn’t believe that King James praised his performance. “That’s awesome,” he said seeming genuinely flattered. “That’s so cool.”
Brock Purdy’s NFL journey is the stuff for legends because literally, no one expected him to win any games as a third-string quarterback. Purdy’s story is quite similar to that of 7x Super Bowl champion Tom Brady who also had the same start to his career. After a dominating win in the first round of the playoffs, all eyes and pressure will be on Purdy as the 49ers head to the divisional round.
San Francisco will face either the Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or Dallas Cowboys.
