The Denver Broncos begin the season by riding on the L train. In what was supposed to be a memorable night for Russell Wilson, a night during which the quarterback was meant to return to his former team and obliterate them and leave making the entire Seattle area miss him, the truth was far from this. The Broncos lost their season opener to the Seahawks by one point.
In what was an unexpected ending to almost every fan watching the game, Geno Smith was able to have himself a great night as he led the Seattle Seahawks to a successful game. Wilson on the other hand had his legs cut from under him at the most crucial moment of the whole game. There were a lot of reasons why the first game has us a bit concerned about the Broncos and HC Nathaniel Hackett is the biggest reason why.

The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks game came down to the wire. In the 4th quarter with just under 21 seconds to go, the Broncos had possession on 4th down, given the seriousness of the situation and the lack of time on the clock, it was supposed to be a natural call from HC Nathaniel Hackett to go for a throw as that would mean entrusting Russell Wilson with the ball, which is what the fans expect, it is what any coach with faith in his players’ abilities would do.
Nathaniel Hackett went the other way, he decided to take a 64-yard field goal and sent his kicker Brandon McManus out there. Keep in mind though a veteran, Brandon has a career-best field goal of 61 yards, he has gone 2 of 10 from 58 yards and above, and the last time he kicked a field goal that exceeded 55 yards, it was 2016.
So, you are going to opt for a kicker who has shown he is unreliable over Russell Wilson, a quarterback to whom you just paid $165 million guaranteed and traded your team’s future in exchange to get him. That does not look good for the Broncos and Nathaniel Hackett, in a do-or-die situation such as that, it was win or lose either way. You just have to calculate the odds of which chance it is that you would want to take. NFL fans online were not pleased with this either, take a look at the outrage the coach’s decision attracted.
