Cleveland Browns owners Jimmy Haslam is finally a relieved man, one would say. After all, Deshaun Watson, his star quarterback signing from the Houston Texans has managed to escape with only an 11-game suspension instead of the initially feared whole 1-year ban.

Deshaun Watson was on the receiving end of 24 different sexual harassment allegations from different women, for making inappropriate gestures towards masseurs during his spell with the Texans. However, all of that culminated in an 11-game suspension and a $5 million fine for the quarterback.

Jimmy Haslam made his stance clear on the quarterback, saying that he believed in giving people second chances, especially when it comes to his “star quarterback.” He once again backed the quarterback as he felt that Watson was remorseful for what has happened in the past, and wants to change himself.

“I think in this country and hopefully, in the world, people deserve second chances, OK. I really think that, Haslam said. “I struggle a little bit. Is he never supposed to play again? Is he never supposed to be a part of society? Does he get no chance to rehabilitate himself? That’s what we’re gonna do, OK.

Haslam then went on to give the example of how the Browns offered Kareem Hunt a second chance, and the move paid off perfectly well for everyone involved. The Browns owner also claimed that he will continue to support their franchise quarterback throughout his journey with the side.

“You can say that’s because he’s a star quarterback. Well, of course,” Haslam said with a slight chuckle. “But if he was Joe Smith he wouldn’t be [in] the headlines every day. We think people deserve a second chance. We gave Kareem Hunt a second chance and that’s worked out pretty well.”
