Caleb Williams‘ 2023 college football season with USC ended in disappointment as the team lost five of their last six games. The USC Trojans finished the season with a record of 7-5 and missed the NCAA playoffs. Williams had another great season with USC but failed to lead his team to the playoffs. He is the projected first-overall pick for next year’s NFL Draft.
However, Williams’ father has already clarified that the young QB has “two shots at the apple” and might return to college “if there’s not a good situation” in the NFL this season. The quarterback himself does not want to commit anything as of now and believes that he will make the decision when the time is right.
Williams said that it’s still “a game-time decision” whether he will declare for next year’s draft. The QB also labeled this season as one of the “most important years of playing football so far.” He also talked about the season and how he is dealing with it personally. Williams said:
I’ve never been in this situation, where I’m 7-5 and there are no playoff hopes at the end of the season. I’m dealing with it emotionally, dealing with it spiritually and physically. It’s been one of the most important years I think I’ve had.
Williams this season threw for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and 5 picks. He also had 142 rushing yards and 11 rushing TDs. The QB had one of the best college football season last year when he won the Heisman Trophy. There will be a lot of media attention on Williams going forward.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley talked about Caleb Williams after their loss to Washington
USC’s 2023 season ended with a three-game losing streak. They lost five of their last six games of the season and finished with a record of 7-5. Their QB Caleb Williams, who is projected to go number one overall in next year’s draft, had a great season but failed to lead his team to the playoffs. USC’s head coach, Lincoln Riley talked about his quarterback after their game against Washington.
Riley said:
It’s definitely tested him, there’s no question. He came here and took a chance on this place and took a chance on being a part of restarting this program and getting it going. He’s a special player.
Williams finished the game against Washington with 312 total yards and 4 total TDs. He had a completion percentage of 77.1 in that game. The USC Trojans lost their last game of the season against UCLA, 20-38.
