Ja Morant has found himself in the midst of yet another controversy. The talented guard for the Memphis Grizzlies was suspended for 8-games earlier after he was found flaunting a gun on social media in a Colorado Strip club, he has repeated his mistake by waving a gun on social media once again. This time, Morant was seen holding a gun on one of his friend’s social media handles when he went live.

Ja Morant is currently suspended from all team activities relating to the Memphis Grizzlies. The NBA is yet to issue a punishment for him, however, Adam Silver is likely to come down hard on him this time and impose a substantial suspension. In light of this incident, analysts and other athletes have expressed their concerns over Morant’s behavior. Many are afraid that Morant is putting himself in a risky position needlessly and could potentially lose everything if anything were to go wrong.

Cam Newton’s net worth is $75 million and he shared his concerns on Ja Morant via his YouTube channel on the segment Cam Newton’s Thoughts. Cam’s take on this subject was by far one of the more sensible ones as he spoke his heart out and imparted wisdom to not just Ja Morant, but more importantly, his friends, his homeboys, and those who hang out with him.

Here’s what Cam had to say, “We’ve seen a certain situation that everyone wants to chime in and speak on. That’s Ja Morant…he’s still young, if you ain’t never been a dude who made it out of a situation, sit down, shut up, and listen. When I see Ja, I’m seeing a guy that I don’t blame him…I blame the homeboy, the dad, the girlfriendbro you check that motherf*cker, you check him.”

Cam believes those closest to him who wish well for him need to keep him in check and ask him at times, “What are you doing?”

Cam is addressing Morant’s friends and family; he continues, “I’m talking to the homeboys, I’m talking to the dudes that are beneficiaries of those lifestyles. If you go to a restaurant and you ain’t never picked up the bill, if you go to the club, if you ain’t never tip the waiter If you go in and live in these five- and four-star hotels and the amenities that you’re getting and these high-quality Air BNB’s, these first-class trips, these comfort plus trips that YOU didn’t have any chipping in to…it’s your job to protect the individual that’s supplying it.”

Cam goes on to add, “I see it happen way too many times…you see a dude come in, he got the bling on, and everyone knows whoever he is. Then you see him running around with 6,7,8,12 different people…that’s the entourage. The dude’s that in the entourage, you lame as hell if you allow your friend if you allow your homeboy, if you allow ‘The Bag’… to do something and not check that …everything ain’t for everybody bro.”

Cam Newton was enraged at Ja Morant’s friends for not keeping him out of trouble, in this instance, they were the reason that he ended up facing the music. Ja appears to be surrounded by “yes men’, who seldom tell him that he needs to watch his actions and be more careful now than ever considering the position that he is in. Cam continues, “I ain’t never had that…. y’all groupie as* friends, homeboys, partner’s homegirls, girlfriends, cousins, dad’s, mom’s, aunties, cousins…y’all ain’t ever been nowhere where y’all could just say, “This is just for my keepsake.'”

Cam Newton also believes that “it’s okay to do stuff and nobody knows. It is fine. As a matter of fact, that’s how it’s supposed to be.” This habit of posting everything on social media is one that could land a person in trouble.

Cam believes Ja’s circle is “enticing the bag (Ja Morant) by saying ‘Man, hold this gun, Man, smoke this…,” and is criticizing them for not looking out for him. He gives a great example of successful executives, and top CEOs of Fortune 500 Companies who take vacations, take breaks, and live their lives but seldom post it on social media as they understand that it is not in their best interest to do so.

As per Cam, Ja’s circle is “enticing the bag (Ja Morant) by saying, ‘Man, hold this gun, Man, smoke this…,” and is criticizing them for not looking out for him. He gives a great example of successful executives, and top CEOs of Fortune 500 companies who take vacations, take breaks, and live their lives but seldom post them on social media as they understand that it is not in their best interest to do so.

Furthermore, Cam Newton believes that there are individuals in Ja’s group who want to be ‘The guy’ and they tend to lose sight of how their actions are likely to affect Ja negatively.

He got $20 million a year on the line that’s in jeopardy just to keep his nose clean… you goddamn right it’s my job to protect this guy….that’s my restitution to him…I pray that Ja gets a circle around him that can protect him in those situations,” Cam concludes.

Naturally, his words are exactly what Ja needs to hear right now, as do his friends and family. In the position that Morant is in, he now has a lot of people dependent upon him, and while those who have been with him their entire lives enjoy the perks that come out of hanging with him, they do need to give him some perspective from time to time and keep him under check.

There have been instances wherein an athlete has immense potential to be great but, because of their circle, has failed. Antonio Brown is one similar athlete who comes to mind. This is not to say that Ja and AB are in similar situations, but it does show that it is very important to maintain a positive circle of friends who are not afraid to stand up to you when you are genuinely in the wrong.
