“He turns into a different person on the field”: Chris Olave reveals how “Mentor” Michael Thomas has drastically impacted his mindset
Chris Olave and Michael Thomas
Nobody was really talking about the importance of mentorship showered from the experienced players to the young recruits. However, recently, Ryan Tannehill gave what has been called an “unsavory response” when he was asked if he would mentor young Titans QB Malik Willis.
“I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him, but if he learns from me along the way, then that’s a great thing,” Ryan had claimed about Willis. These words garnered contrasting reactions from NFL fans. Since then, a lot of players have been asked if they would like to mentor the young talents in their units.

“We’re both competitors”: Chris Olave on Michael Thomas
As it turns out, Saints’ veteran Wide Receiver Michael Thomas has already taken up the responsibility to mentor Chris Olave, the new WR on his team. In fact, Thomas FaceTimed Olave when it was confirmed that he will join the New Orleans-based franchise.
“I feel like that was exactly a year ago. That was cool being out there with him, and finally being on the same team is going to be huge. I can’t wait,” Olave said as reported by Mike Triplett of ESPN while reflecting on the time when he got an opportunity to workout alongside Thomas about a year ago.
“He kind of showed love to me since college, so we’d text back and forth every now and then. I feel like we have the same mindset. We both want to dominate. We’re both competitors. Just when we get on the field, we turn into a different person. Just knowing him and knowing he’s on the other side of the field, that’s going to make us better and make us go hard,” Olave stated.
Olave further claimed that he can’t wait to learn from Thomas and Jarvis Landry. “I can’t wait to learn from them, those two legends. I just started playing receiver my junior year of high school. Coming here and having Mike Thomas, and Jarvis Landry help me, I have a lot of room for development. I can’t wait to max that out,” he stated.
It will be interesting to see how Olave performs when he gets a chance to showcase his talent on the biggest stage in the coming season.
