The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football on the back of a stunning performance from Jake Browning. The backup QB replaced the team’s injured starter, Joe Burrow during their week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He had a decent game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week but was exceptional against the Jaguars on Monday.

Browning finished with 354 yards and one touchdown and completed 86.5 percent of his passes. He breathed new life into the Bengals’ dwindling playoff hopes and got them back to a .500 record. The Bengals eventually won the game, 34-31 in overtime. Their HC Zac Taylor praised the quarterback for his performance as he acknowledged that “a great week of practice” was a huge reason why he felt a lot better about his QB going into the game.

Taylor said after the game:

He just lit the world on fire. At halftime I wasn’t sure we had an incompletion, if the ball had hit the ground yet. I just throught he managed the game beautifully well. He was aggressive with some of his throws, did a great job making plays with his feet. . . . Just really proud of Jake and the job he did.

This was Browning’s second NFL start and he had the game of his life against a really good team.

The Bengals were expected to make a Super Bowl run this season, but with Burrow out for the rest of the season, that door seems to have closed. However, if Browning plays like this for the rest of their campaign, the Bengals might make some noise in the postseason.

Browning said after the win:

I haven't played a lot of football, but it's not like I'm not used to winning. I've won a lot of games in my career. None of them have been in the NFL until today, which is obviously noteworthy. I've won a lot of football games in my life.

Browning’s performance was significantly better than his outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. He and the team’s star WR Ja’Marr Chase connected on 11 passes as Chase went off for 149 yards and a touchdown. The Bengals will play their next game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
