Josh McDaniels and the Las Vegas Raiders would be looking for a new quarterback this off-season since they burned the bridge between them and Derek Carr. Amidst their ugly season, the Raiders decided to bench Carr and start their second-string quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the remaining two games of the NFL season. Among many people, Colin Cowherd also went off on the Raiders team for this decision and showed their support for Derek Carr.

Speaking on his show The Herd, Cowherd defended Carr with his statistics. He said that Carr has thrown for over 35,000 yards while dealing with multiple coaching changes, constant chaos, and often a bad offensive line at the Las Vegas Raiders.

Stuff gets going on the internet and nobody pushes back, and then all of the sudden you wake up and 'Derek Carr is terrible.' It's like: Time out. Time out.--He is one of the rare good quarterbacks in this league you can move now and not be a big dead cap hit.--I'll say this, just to defend Derek Carr again: He's 31 years old. He's already at 35,000 yards. That's with multiple coaching changes, constant chaos, an often bad offensive line.

Cowherd also said that teams like the New York Jets, Washington Commanders, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should make a run at Carr once he hits the trade market. He believes that Carr will guide them to playoffs next season. The analyst went on to predict that Carr will play for at least another six years in the league, which will help him to throw for more than 50,000 yards and will cement Carr’s legacy as an elite quarterback in the NFL.

The Raiders are indeed having a poor season even with Cowherd defending Carr

Derek Carr was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. Since then, he has been the franchise quarterback of the Raiders for the last nine seasons. He has 35,222 yards and 217 touchdowns as a Raider while completing 64.6% of his passes. The Fresno State product has been to Pro Bowl for three consecutive years.

The 31-year-old quarterback inked a 3-year, $121.5 Million contract just earlier this year in hopes of helping the team to win a Super Bowl. To strengthen their chances to get to the Super Bowl, the Raiders signed star wide receiver Davante Adams. The Raiders also hired a new head coach to lead them in the 2022-23 NFL season. But even after all these good off-season moves, the Raiders failed to even clinch a playoff spot and they will finish the season with an under .500 record.

Cowherd highlighted this and said that the Raiders are trying to protect Carr from injuries since they’ve decided to move him in the offseason, which he thinks is a mistake. The FS1 firmly believes Carr is a good quarterback who will be tough to replace.
