The Chicago Bears had a poor start to their 2023-24 season as they lost back-to-back games. In the first game, the team lost by a margin of 38-20 against the Green Bay Packers. They also disappointed the fans in the second game as they lost against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by 27-17. The second game included a horrible show by none other than their franchise quarterback (QB) Justin Fields who failed to create an impact against the Buccs.

Multiple analysts hammered the quarterback after his performance against the Buccs. The latest to join the bandwagon is Colin Cowherd. The veteran analyst from his show slandered Fields and said he gives him the reminder of  Zach Wilson. He also said that Fields is no longer a franchise quarterback anymore.

Justin Fields is 5-22. There is mounting evidence that he’s not a franchise quarterback. He holds the ball way too long. He leads the NFL by a mile since he came into the league in sacks with 4+ seconds in the pocket. His career passer rating is under 80. He doesn’t appear to be improving. Is he good in the fourth quarter? Nope, it’s his lowest passer rating—61.9. He’s not good late in games, and you need great quarterbacks late in games. He is good on-script? No, his first quarter passer rating is not good either, that’s his second-lowest passer rating. Not good early on-script, not good late, there’s no circumstance he’s excelling in,” Cowherd said.

“I’ve always been critical of Baker Mayfield but I’ve said Baker leading with a run-game was good. Mayfield’s career passer rating when leading a game is 94. Mac Jones’ career passer rating when leading is 100. Justin Fields’ is 62, two touchdowns and seven picksIt does feel a lot like Zach Wilson,” he further added.

The performance of Justin Fields

Justin Fields has not been impressive in this season. In the two matches, the player hardly had any impact which could lead to a gaming-changing moment for the Chicago Bears.

In the second game, the player completed 16 of his 29 throws. He had two touchdowns and was intercepted twice. One of his interceptions resulted in a pick-six and the Bears lost the game.

Overall, in two games, the player covered 427 throwing yards and had only two touchdowns. The number of interceptions is higher than his number of touchdowns. The player has a passer rating of 70.7 %. It seems if he does not improve his numbers then the Bears might bench him.
